My 2005 XKR has a faulty passenger door motor, which would neither lock nor unlock with the key fob, though it did work manually. I have ordered a (used) replacement and am awaiting for it to be sent here,
Since then, though, the passenger door will not open, whatever I do. The key fob does nothing, the key does nothing, the inside lever does not move from the closed (locked) position, and the outside lever does not do anything. There is no difference in behaviour with the ignition on, with the engine running, with the battery disconnected, with the ignition off, and a soft reset also had no effect. As a result, I cannot open the door at all.
We have succeeded in removing the door panel, with the door still closed, and have disconnected the motor mechanism - again, no effect.
It seems that the door has been deadlocked.
Can anyone point me in the right direction, here? I need to be able to open the door, ideally so that the car remains usable with a passenger being able to open the door manually, but at any rate so that the latch mechanism, when it does arrive, can be fitted without having to resort to an angle grinder! There is, of course, no problem if destroying the existing mechanism is the only way. Thanks!
ps. Now living in Portugal, which is a wonderful country for this car. The X100 is seen as a very high status car here, equal or greater than Ferrari and Aston Martin. They are so right!
There's a picture from Gus of the latch mechanism, and also a video from someone with a similar problem (although an XJ)
Thanks. I had seen that thread, but I cannot run any of the videos, unfortunately; no idea why (tried Chrome and Safari, on imac). The real problem I am facing is how to get that door open!
Mike, that is really handy. Thanks. We will be having a look at this tomorrow. I believe there is some kind of plastic cover over the latch motor. Presumably we will need to remove - ie break this off - to get at the actuator?
The shield comes off by prying some plastic **** up inside with a screwdriver. Don't think you can get to them without removing the latch from the door.
What ever it takes to break it in pieces will be the correct procedure. Sorry for your problem. The above my help you get the door open, I hope so.
Can you see if the cable is having any effect on the door cam. If the cable is broken, which I can not believe, a whole different story.
Good luck in the morning.
Resolved, using the techniques given in this thread. Rather than use a screwdriver, though, we raised the deadlock bolt using a strong metal strip with a notch cut near the end. This worked as an effective hook. We removed the actuator and refitted everything (and will put the new unit in when it arrives - can’t lock the door right now) so really happy to be on the road again, and so quickly.
