Default dipstick O ring

where to order dipstick O ring ? Would like to have a spare on hand.

The usual suspects, JagBits, SNG Barrett, etc. only show the dipstick as available for ordering, not just the o ring.

If I knew the size, ID and OD, I might be able to just match it up with whats available locally. Anyone know the dimensions ?

Thanks for the info. My local dealer is 50 miles away, hence my interest in mail order or dimensions.

FWIW, I do the o-ring kits from Harbor Freight. Typically enough variety in there to get by for most repairs. Cheap enough, and nice to have on hand.

do those have heat resistant ratings on the package ?

Call me an O / C worrywart, and you'd be right; but I'd be worried that just any ole O-ring might be of the sub-standard variety.

isn't this the tube O-ring ? I'm looking for the O-ring on the dipstick itself, not the one on the dipstick tube.

ZRay, Fmertz has spoken! Get yourself a Bag of "O" Rings down at the Parts Store or order a bunch from Harbor Freight.....Either way, it's just an "O" Ring...Kind'a small - Kind'a Fat but it works and it's a good idea to change it out occasionally!

I have yet to see a dipstick o-ring perish as they aren't subjected to as much heat as the engine itself. As some of my American friends say: 'if it ain't broke, don't fix it!'

When and if the sealing quality of the o-ring becomes an issue, you can simply do as others have suggested, or purchase a new dipstick.

My Dipstick was placed in my 2005 XKR around 2/04; the date my jaguar was built over there in England and Today it has 96,000 miles on it.....The only sign of wear is the color of the Plastic Handle has faded due to the Air Intake directly above it! The "O" Ring still looks good but it is probably a little harder than it was back then......I did have the Tube and "O" Ring replaced as the Engine heat did it in about a year ago and it was leaking AIR.....Now that I think about it, I probably should replace the one on the Stick....Just in case! Whata you think?

Lightbulb Fmertz the Harbor Freight Man!

Today, after reading through this Forum and seeing your reference to Harbor Freight again, I remembered that I have seen their Advertisements in Car & Driver a number of times, so I thought I would look them up on the Internet...….Stupid me! There is a Store (New) about 2 miles from my House...and I had no idea! Tomorrow will be my first trip, hopefully they will be open (Sunday) and I will report back on what I found....

I need one of these o-rings as for whatever reason it was missing from the dipstick on my XKR when I bought it.

In the meantime i've sealed up the very slight vacuum leak with electrical tape, but every time I check the oil that seal get's a little worse.

I've tried lots of different generic o-rings and none of them have worked out.

The thickness of the original o-ring is much thinner than a standard o-ring in the required internal diameter, it's also not exact round in the cross-section, at least the one on my XJR isn't.

So if someone figures out a source for these correct sized o-rings, i'll buy some from you.
