Help on a gear box fault/low performance mod
Hi all, putting together a 2000 XK8 for a friends moms retirement. The main thing I'm having problems with is a gear box fault & low performance mode. Code - p1643. So far I've check the battery voltage and all is good/charging aswell checked the fuses. My intentions this week is to start checking wiring connections as I have found some like to collect water. I've noticed that "p" for park is not lilluminating on the j-gate, so I gather it's not getting signal. I see many people talk about this online but no one speaks of diagnosis other then stuck shifters. (Which this is not btw, car seems to idle fine and will drive)
was hoping for some pointers, thanks in advance! Cheers

You may want to post your questions in the XK8 (X100) forum.
Check that all cylinders are firing as a misfire can cause the 'Transmission Fault' message to appear. Sometimes engine oil can get into the spark plug wells and short the coil unit, or a coil unit can become faulty and not set a DTC or turn on the MIL.
If the MIL is illuminated, post the DTCs for suggestions.

Thanks for the reply!
when we first got the car here I pulled the drivers valve cover to check the timing chain guides, spark plug holes on that side are clean and dry, how ever they to appear to have had water in them at some point. I was going to recommend spark plugs and coils after if we can figure this problem out. The engine feels like it's running smooth with no noticeable hiccups
my only codes are the P1643 and P1000 which is useless to us. I also had a left front abs code c1155, which once erased stayed. The p1643 aswell the gear box fault and restricted performance come back instantly, even after pulling the battery out
another fault on the cluster I also have I forgot to mention before was "incorrect part fitted". This car was bought with problems and I have no idea what the PO did to the car

That's my assuming on the abs, haven't paid much mind to it yet. I'm in Canada. I'm yet to get the wheel off and check. It's up at my cottage, so I only get time to work on it during the weekend, so I try to be prepared
the vehicle had had been hit in the rear many years ago, but other then that I would say not. I'd suspect they are related , but the why and how are my problem at this point.
