Exclamation Help with Odd Issue

Hi all,

I recently got this error when starting up the 2002 XK8. Immediately upon start up I got a whole bunch of new errors, which i never had before.
1. Low Brake Fluid
2. Incorrect Part Fitted
3. Failsafe Engine Mode
4. Transmission Fault
5. ASC Not Available
6. Incorrect Part Fitted

Also,
6. Check Engine light is on,
7. ABS light is on
8. Parking Brake light is one (Parking brake was not engaged)
9. Car can be started but,
10. Car cannot move out of park
11. All dash gauges are not updating (RPM, Speed, Temp, oil pressure) Fuel gage bounces around!

I hooked up my scan tool, and was able to pull the following codes.
P1638 - CAN link engine control unit/Instrument cluster/network malfunction
U1135 - Ignition state not obtained
U1041 - SCP vehicle speed signal - invalid or missing message

Link to fuel gauge gif.

Anybody have any idea what this could be? Am I looking at a ECU issue?

First things first. How old is your battery?

Often when you get loads of oddball codes it means you have a low voltage problem. Check your battery with car off, and check the voltage when car is running.

Battery low voltage is definitely the first thing to rule out.

If that is not the problem, then the "P1638 CAN INST token message missing error" could point to the INST pack can bus solder blob issue, although I thought that was on 2001 cars only....or possibly some other issue with the instrument pack. Anyway, browsing threads on that theme might indicate whether others had similar symptoms....

forgot to mention, battery is brand new ( ~3 months old), and was on a tender prior to this.

Update: I checked the Instrument Cluster rework, and it seems like it was already done, or likely out of the affected lot.

Still need to do a load test on the battery, but does anyone have anything else to check?

Thanks in advance
Jay

The M signifies ",modified" backplate

No indication of solder migration

Check that the bellhousing to chassis ground strap is clean and tight, same for battery and bulkhead connections.
