Default High Pitch Whine in Engine Compartment... any ideas?

First off, I am not a mechanic.

There is a new high pitch whine, similar in sound to my Chevy Suburban's fuel pump. It's coming from the engine compartment, from the best I can tell, it's behind the supercharger around where the distributor should be.

The whine is pretty much constant. It does change pitch going from park to drive, but revving the engine or driving it does not really change the noise as far as I can tell.

It's going to the shop on monday anyways, but any ideas of what it is?

It sounds like my ex-wife might be in your engine compartment.

It could be a couple of things, but I can't see the point of guessing to be honest, especially not when you bring your car, as for a good technician it is easy to spot. A recording would have helped though.

There is no distributor.
Anyway, the whining noise comes from your acc. Belt.
Easy to replace

It may be the throttle body. They make some noise even when the key is just in the on position. Try the key to on, with the engine off and see if that's the noise you're talking about.

Agree with 80sRule (which they do BTW, totally). Then again, it could be the climate control. Either way, its normal, and should not be of any concern. If you hear crazy ticking from your driver fenderwell, then I CAN tell you what that is.

Problem solved... it was this thing:

It was the first time my indie shop had ever seen this go bad, and Jaguar no longer stocks this part so I had to get a used one:

Sounds like it's the solenoid-activated flap that's open except when on boost. Wreckers should have one.
