The few around the rim just unscrew. They tend to need a small amount of tension to keep them in the threads due to being a push in type. I ended up replacing some of this type with ones from Lowes after several R&Rs.
The ones at the bottom along the inside have a slot that you use to pull out the friction fit center post. They are reusable and durable.
I'm ready to fix my sagging drivers door. As I recall, un-fastening the inner wheel well liner is not intuitively obvious to me.
Would you mind telling me how to unhook the plastic fasteners?
Rather than just poking around and figuring it out, I thought it best to ask. Thanks,
John
If removing the front wheel well liners, jack car up and remove front wheel, there are a series of different fasteners John, a couple of them are plastic push pin type which need to be pryed out, a door card removal tool, (or screwdriver!) can be used, there are 3 10 mm plastic nuts which are easily removed, a T30 torx screw, and several screw rivets to unscrew (phillips head I believe), once hardware is removed you can pull the liner out. If I remember correctly, there is a video for this on Reverend Sams youtube channel.
From the XK8 - Body Preparation for Repainting manual:
The expander pegs are the awkward ones. The centre peg has to be pulled back (NOT out!) to take the tension off the expander and the whole fitting then pulls out.
Be careful not to bend the two on the wheel arch as when you disconnect them form the arch liner, they will bend (two tabs), I recently did this and now am having issues with the arch liner staying in place (nothing a few strategically placed tapping screws cannot remedy). I would very strongly recommend a door clip removal tool, this makes it much easier. And can be had for only a few dollars at any local parts store.
John,
How are you planning to fix your sagging door by removing the inner liner? When I did my door removal this weekend I researched a little and came across this old thread. A few of the guys fixed their sagging door by pulling up on it while it was opened.
Bob, someone recently posted detailed fix info for sagging door by accessing the bolt for the hinge from inside the wheel well.
be careful of the bend it back method, several folks have posted that it is a temporary fix.
John
Ok. I didn't realize there was access from the wheel well. I removed the 3 bolts on each hinge from the inside of the door to remove the door/ adjust. Your way might be easier. Let us know how it works out.
OK Bob, I sure will. this "sag" seems to be getting worse. Guess I don't notice it until I open the passenger door - it "feels" like it is on air bearings, very smooth compared to my door. It won't be long until it starts wearing off some pain at the lower door sill.
