Newbe help xkr engine tick
Hello, just purchased 2001 xkr. 133 k miles.runs good.pulls hard,no codes or warning lights.noticed slight tick coming from rt engine bank. Most pronounced between 1500 to 2500 rpm.sound like lifter tick(i assume these cars dont have lifters)
not consistant,comes and goes
Happens more often when car is under load but not exclusively
cant hear when hood is up ,can hear when sitting in drivers seat
Couple of things not sure if related
1. Appears oil is about 1 qt overfilled( not me bought this way) i will drain off extra tomorrow .
2.minor oil leak visible on top of rt valve cover coming from flexible tube that goes from front of cover to intake tube.
Any and all replies are greatly appreciated!! My first jag and first post here!

I know Jaguar issued a revised dipstick after 2001 (see https://www.jaguarforums.com/forum/x...ipstick-93659/) which I believe increased oil capacity by about 1 quart, and I think design of the engine allows it to be overfilled to some extent anyway. Also, I have a similar oil leak which keeps reappearing no matter how many times the gasket is replaced, I've been told it's just an issue with the 4.0 liter engine.
Good luck,
Jacob

Jlewis,
Welcome to the lovely world of old Jag X100.
For your engine tick, I would suspect it’s the on/off of the VVT but I’m not familiar with the set up on your XKR.m which I presume it’s supercharged so set up may be different.
For the oil leak at the cam cover pipe, I would suspect the Full Load PCV breather (the plastic pipe from the engine cam cover to the air intake). Maybe just inspect the short breather pipe and replace their O rings I had a bigger problem here on my NA engine, thread below.

There’s a To The Garage Youtube video on this job, but again it’s on the NA engine.

The XKR doesn't have VVT (at least the 4.0 version doesn't), so it can't be that. Do you have the latest tensioners? If not I would be having a look at those first.
And as for oil leaks being "just an issue on these engines" you need to change mechanics if that is what they are telling you Jacob, lol.
