Default Powerflex Upper A Arm Bushings

Al the other threads were quite old so I started a new one:

I removed my A arms to remove my front struts in anticipation of the coilovers coming. I'm also refreshing the brake calipers and pads, etc.

My bushings look good (though on one I dropped all the shims so the order is all messed up). However to not have to do this again, I'm going to replace the upper A arm bushings.

I'm looking at the Powerflex Bushing Set

The pdf for instructions states: 1. Remove the original rubber bush from the front upper wishbone.

2. Clean any dirt or corrosion from the wishbone and file off any sharp edges.

3. Push the polyurethane part into the wishbone until the top hat section sits on the surface of the wishbone.

4. Push a second polyurethane part into the wishbone from the opposite side until the top hat section sits on the wishbone. There will be contact between the polyurethane parts inside the bore of the wishbone.

5. Apply some of the supplied grease to the bore of the polyurethane parts and insert the sleeve into the bore until it sits flush within the bush.

6. When refitting the wishbone, ensure that a washer is placed on both polyurethane parts, as shown in figure 1.

It does not say anything about using the OEM shims that are currently on the car.

So do I just use the supplied washers with the Powerflex? Or do I need to add all the shims and those stepped washers back?

I found a post that says the shims should be used, but not those stepped (hat?) washers. Can anyone confirm?

Use the shims in the correct order + the washers. Those shims are what's used to set the caster. Somewhere in another thread I've posted in, there is a reference to the correct shim order from Jaguar, along with a correction from another forum member.

If you do NOT care about castor, then you are golden. (leave the shims out)

When I installed the Powerflex, I installed the shims

That is correct. Thick and thin caster washer shims plus the large washers supplied with poly bushes.

Thanks everyone. Valued info in the forums just liked doing a gut-check since the Powerflex site didn't mention the shims.

Just for future reference, you need to grease (using the correct silicone grease) the outside of the inner sleeve where it goes through the urethane bushing, & the outside edges of the bushing where it pivots against the shims. You do NOT grease the bushing where it goes through the control arm. Anyone buying urethane bushings should buy extra grease, as most bushings don't come with enough to do a proper job...

See this post from GGG:
https://www.jaguarforums.com/forum/x...36/#post588411

Note there's a couple of errors on the first line of (1). It should read:
"Thick shim (Blue) is 0.063" (1.6mm) and affects caster by 0.4 degree"
