Bob has the preferred info and Jag procedure above. The dif housing is a Salisbury part and made at the Salisbury Plant owned by Dana Corp. The housing and pinion may be similar the the Dana 44, and if so, the seal should fit. The Jag housing will accept Dana 44 gears if a mod is made to the dia. of the ring gear bolt holes and modified bolts are used. There is limited amount of info on the kinship for Jag Salisbury and Dana 44, but it can be found if searched thoroughly... None of above is confirmed by personal tests so I only relay what research has shown. Google- Jag Salisbury and Dana 44 differential.

thanks for the input and different approach considerations.
As to the seal...since it is @ $9.00 usd I'm going to order it and do a side by side comparison with the one I remove.
Is there another 'seal' (O ring) that fits behind this seal?

If I remember correctly it's just a conventional lip seal which runs along the outer surface of the flange which you pull out once you have removed the nut. Make sure that you check the removal and torque procedure for the nut before you remove it.

For simplicity, you can mark the nut and reuse. Put it back EXACTLY where it was with a little threadlocker to get the preload the way it was from the factory.

Just a suggestion.

Hi wymjym,

Just a heads up that when the diff pinion seal leaks, it can be an indication that the pinion bearings are worn. Check your pinion shaft for any discernible play and check the backlash between the pinion gear and the diff crown wheel/ring gear. I think the acceptable backlash is listed in the Workshop Manual, which you can download from the DIY Quick Links thread.

If the pinion bearings are worn, your new seal will not last long.

Cheers,

Don

My understanding is Jaguar stopped selling the seal and you had to buy the whole flange assembly with Ryton ring for $300+, so for 9 bucks it's worth a try.
In the UK the cheapest i could find was £65. JLM20326.
