Default Sat Nav upgrade

I know this has been done before, but I thought I'd have a go.

This is just the first pass - I took it all out again until I can get some better fixings and make up a better cable.

But,

So I took off the dash and pulled out the gauges.

Then I found a new Dash on Ebay and a shop soiled Tomtom Go 5100 on Amazon.

and then I took it all out again.

It was ridiculously easy. Still to do - find some better fixings. Make up and 'lose' the TomTom cable.

When WhiteXKR sends me the boot lead I'll start on the phone. I plan to stick the phone kit in the right hand hole. Speaker grill in the left hand hole.

I think this is the first time I have seen anyone take out the triple gauge in favor of a Nav screen.

Perhaps so... But I have retained the option to return if I choose. None of the small changes I have made in the 11 years I have had the car have been ireversable, even the shark fin on the boot.

Greate job!

I do the same thing, buying salavged parts when doing modifications.
How did the center wood piece match up with the rest?

Regards

To be honest not as well as I'd hoped. But I won't really know until we have a sunny day with the top down. I rhink the original kit was redder and the new set is browner. Good job I bought the full set. My Lady Wife's idea.

Steve, the excellent JagWrangler sent me the cable for the boot.

RT2 to RT5 Cable

Next thing is to fit it.

Neat trick - was gonna say this thread made no sense, until I saw you were not attempting to "upgrade" with an obsolete GPS system from Jaguar circa 2006.

I'd like to swap mine out for gauges but that would probably involve a complete new set of wood to keep from looking patchy. But who knows - maybe I can stuff a Kindle or Ipad Mini in where the old GPS used to be....

I was able to do a total dash wood swap, 3 gauge cluster install, which required the wiring harness mod kit from Jagwrangler, for under $450. I love the look, I'm old school I know, but it's a better fit to the X100 platform, imo.

I have a Garmin Novi that is easy as snot to operate, easy also to mount with it's suction cup stand, and is all I need for navigation, period.
