Default And so it begins...

Bought an 06 XK8 today , excited and don’t mind tinkering a bit.
Took it to the Jag dealer to have it all checked out before purchase was clear to them I wanted it gone through thoroughly for fear of buying a money pit ,they identified a couple things,
slight play in rear wheel bearings, minor oil and tranny pan seepage other than that they said a solid well maintained car.
Drove it home pulled into the driveway went to set the handbrake pulled up went to realease and pop cable seems to have broke with the brake set, dash light on.
Cursed a bit , sat in the car reading the manual , noticed the head rest were power up and down and as the drivers was fully up tried to lower it and just a grinding noice no movement
Doh not the best start, not bitching about the car but for 300 bucks I would of thought the dealer would of found these things....scared to touch anything else now!!!!!!

Did you push the button in while pulling up to release? Other than that, stay away from the dealers, they are not dependable.

I don't want to offend, but you need to pull up slightly as you hold the button in, then lower. It will flop freely until then.

The headrest issue is well-documented on this forum. Relatively easy fix involving removing about 12mm of the headrest motor cable sheathing. Take the seat out of the car to work on it - the job will go much faster and smoother for you. This is the first repair I had to do on my wife's 2006 XK8 after we purchased it in early February 2012....

Good luck with your resto. I will be watching your journey, as I hope to be looking for an XK to join my F-Type after Spring.
I personally don't put a lot of stock in dealer check-ups. I have a local mechanic who does any work I do not have the tools or know-how for(read that as most of the work on my cars). He covers anything from '62 Volkswagens to modern Mercedes. Reasonable and honest. Sounds like an oxymoron for a mechanic, but he saved a lot of people a lot of money.
Good luck. This forum is a wealth of knowledge. If you can't find the solution here, time to get rid of it.
