Default substitute for convertible top hydraulic fluid

The reservoir on the pump for my top is getting pretty close to the bottom mark on the reservoir. I'm looking for a generic name or substitute brand for the pump fluid. Did a quick search but couldn't find anything. Anybody have any suggestions ?

I know I can always order a litre of the stuff from Jaguar ...but its $$$$ and seems a waste when I just need an egg cup full

Pentosin CHF-11S can usually be found at the big box auto parts stores. I know our local NAPA carries it....

Many German cars use the Pentosin CHF 11-S (Central Hydraulic Fluid 11- Synthetic). Find a local shop that repairs German cars and they should have the fluid or can tell you where they get it.

+1 on the fluid information. My concern would be why are you low? I would start looking for leaks at the hoses, rams and the latch.

The car is a 2004 and I think I am the first person who has ever looked at the pump. It's not low yet but is getting close. I spoke to my local indy mechanic who is very much into EU vehicles and his response was " basically EU spec synthetic power steering fluid.

heck the bottom of the rocker panel just in front of the rear wheels for oil. If the cylinders leak that's where it will come out.

That is what Pentosin CHF-11S is. But the system can be touchy if the viscosity of the fluid is not correct and the CHF-11S is identical to what Jaguar provides repackaged.

My understanding is that when the rams are retracted, that displacement forces more fluid into the reservoir. When the rams are extended, a portion of the fluid that was in the reservoir fills the void the rams left in the cylinders. Therefore, there are 2 proper levels, 1 for top (hood) down and 1 for top (hood) up in which both levels should fall between the 2 marks on the reservoir.
If I am wrong, someone please correct me.

Fill the fluid to the top line it makes no difference if the roof is open or closed. I have tested it and the difference between open or closed roof is minute.
