Default XK8 ABS Pump

Hi all,
just joined this forum. I have a 2000 XK8 that has had the "No TRAC" 'No ASC" lights on intermittently.
The car went into limp mode and I shut it down. Display read "Transmission'.
I took it to local garage and they checked the computer. Told me that the ABS pump was at fault but that they couldn't do anything because it was tied in to the security system, they didn't have the codes and Jaguar would not give them out. Took it to a dealer yesterday. They confirm it is the ABS pump and have quoted $4,300 to fix. When questioned about it they told me the part cost was $3,300.
Seriously?
Any idea how I can get the car back on the road without going bankrupt?
Thanks.

Well, this is the XJ8/XJR forum, but, there are a lot of people, myself included, who have fixed their ABS problem by re-soldering a bad joint or two where the power comes into the PCB for the ABS pump. There are quite a few posts on this subject. Here is one -

A pump failure would be a rare thing, I'm with JimmyL. You can remove the module ans send it to Automotive Scientific Inc. or other repair services found on ebay, or fix it yourself. here is more info:

JagRepair.com - Jaguar Repair Information Resource

There are several abs repair threads on the forums and at jagrepair.com

Default XK8 ABS Pump

Gents,
thanks for the responses and my apologies for putting my request in the wrong place. I'm now reading the forum rules!
The garage did offer to solder the power pins in the module and I told them to go ahead.
Just picked it up and it went into limp mode after about 15 mins. I guess it didn't work.
I drove it this morning and managed to drive for 50 minutes without a problem as long as I kept under 65 mph. Seems not to like anything over 70 mph.
I imagine my next plan would be to get a reconditioned unit. I had called one company from the internet but was then subjected to 4 phone calls asking when I wanted it delivered. Seemed way too keen to get my cash even calling after I told them I was taking another approach.
Thanks again.

hardsuit, I've moved this to the XK8/XKR section.

As for the repairs to the ABS and limp mode - not related!!! Recommend taking to an Advance Autoparts or Autozone and have codes read, post here for recommendations

Also when you have a moment, stop by the New Member area and post an intro, in turn, you will receive a warm welcome and tons of helpful tips

Your abs module is probably fixed, and the limp mode is due to something else. ABS faults do not cause limp mode. It may be a transmission fault or just a weak battery.
Stop by a parts store and ask them to read the codes and load test the battery. If there are no codes other than P1000 you it is going to be necessary to have a specialist with Jaguar software read the codes.

Default XK8 ADS Pump

Thanks RJ,
I'm now more confused.
The dealership didn't give me that information. They said the code read was 1095 ( no other codes recorded) and didn't mention anything that may be wrong with the transmission.
I assumed it was still the ABS unit, that the solder on the pins hadn't worked and went ahead and ordered a reconditioned ABS module. Having said that I haven't seen the "No TRAC" 'No ASC" warnings since I got it back except when it stuttered and went into limp mode. The display showed an orange light with the ABS warnings and also a red light with "Transmission."
It started up after a few seconds of being shut down and I drove home gently with no ill effects.
If it isn't showing other codes where do i go from here?
Thanks

With an ABS & Transmission indication along with a shutdown I would be looking at the throttle body. But before you do this plug in your OBDII reader and take the car for a run and see if you can capture another code. Temporary codes are not stored.

I'd also have the battery checked as low voltage can cause some weird stuff as well

Many thanks gents. My local shop thought it might be the TB and had it checked and cleaned.
I'm not getting any ABS warnings since the pins were soldered.
Went into limp at 75 mph yesterday.
I plan to take it back to garage and have them check the battery first thing.

Read the OBDII codes first.
