Default XK8 - No Valet key

I've never had the Valet key for the XK8. The trunk/boot lock status always mirrored the door lock status.
The VALET button was inadvertently pressed and now the trunk/boot lock is always engaged until the fob or panel switch next to the fuel door is pressed.
I'd like to revert to the original situation. Is there a way to do this? Maybe disconnect the battery?

It is not uncommon for the button to stay pushed-in. You might want to spray some cleaner around the edges to see if it pops out. Other option is to remove the knee bolster (2x10mm screws at the bottom) and access/clean/replace the button from behind. If you go down that route, be sure to check around as the bolster is a bit heavy and can interfere with the IC illumination rotary adjustment (adjust the steering column accordingly) when moved, and also there is an "aspirator" on the other side that needs to be disconnected as well.

Best of luck, keep us posted.

PS: FWIW, the stickies should have links to a copy of the owner's manual with a full description of this valet feature, straight from Jaguar.

Another option is to disconnect the godforsaken switch (using the instructions by fmertz above, but ending by disconnecting the switch), disabling both the godforsaken 'knee-actuated switch' and valet 'features'.

Tis easy to cable tie neatly out of the way, never to be a bother again.

Con: it does eliminate the potential for a 'triple play', the act of sliding your knee down the bolster, setting the valet switch, opening the gas cover, and opening the boot/trunk in one smooth movement.

Crbass: Excellent triple play option. This triple play was famously achieved in the White House by Rose Mary Woods, who erased the Nixon Watergate tapes, what became known as the Rose Mary Stretch!

Dale, I love the triple play note! Reminds me of why I moved my valet switch to the other side, swapping it with the blank plug mirrored on the right side of the LHD cars.

edit next day: oops, so much for my minds eye late at night - I moved the valet to the blank spot to the right but not to the other side. The space on the "other side" of the panel is occupied by the climate control aspirator.

Nevertheless it moved the switch out of fat knee range. . .

John

Excellent thought, John. I should have moved mine to your car.

The 'triple' shows how badly off those of you with left-hand-drive are - on a RHD car we can also swich on the wipers with the same knee, for the 'fantastic four'!

Thanks to all for the expert help!
The button itself moves and clicks. I tried silicon spray around the edges and repeatedly pressed (and cursed) to no avail.
I'm going to live with it until my next maintenance visit and have the button disabled.

Again, thank you one and all!

Do the boot lamps come ON?

Does the INSTPK display BOOT OPEN or TRUNK OPEN?
If the boot lid is open and the display does NOT indicate, then the boot lid switch is faulty and the car will NEVER come out of VALET MODE.
