Default XKR 2002 - Petrol Thefts

Help please!

One of the unfortunate features of this model (which I love dearly!) is the lack of a locking petrol cap. Hmmm

Twice in the last month, my fuel flap has been forced - first time the Jaguar fuel cap was stolen (along with some petrol) and the second time a locking cap I had bought, was removed - again with some fuel.

I really dont want a lock on the fuel flap - it would just spoil the look and line of the car. So I wondered if anyone has tried connecting the fuel flap to the alarm system? It may just stop the joker going further and really spoiling my day before I seriously spoil his

Is this even possible or has someone found an alternative solution.

Any help or suggestions would be seriously appreciated

Many thanks

Martin

Thats pretty poor Martin & probably a sign if the times I guess.

I suppose they feel that if you can afford a "SUPERCAR" like the XKR as they would view it, you will fill it to the brim with fuel and won't miss it.

Clearly in their minds eye they need it more than you.

So sorry about your issues, unfortunately I can't help but hope that someone may have an idea

Good luck

Go to an audio shop and upgrade your alarm with a sensor /switch on the fuel door. Yes, it's inexpensive and it can work independently of the factory alarm if you like....

Sorry to hear about this, Martin.

Jaguars always used to have locking fuel tank caps. Back in the 70's when I had a Series I XJ6, I always locked the twin chrome caps ............ until the day one was forced with a jemmy which did considerable damage to the rear wing.

After the cost of this repair, I never locked tanks again, preferring to risk the loss of a few gallons of fuel to costly bodywork repairs. Petrol thieves don't care how much damage they do your vehicle and a lock won't deter them.

Have you considered putting a miniature camera in the rear of the vehicle to find out who is doing this?

Also asking neighbours to find out whether you are the only one parking in your location who is suffering this will help determine whether it is personal and the fuel theft is just a way of getting at you or is a general problem.

Thank you Graham - sensible advice. I agree re being prepared to accept (grudgingly!) the petrol loss, but they are taking the tank caps as well - and its the hassle of replacing them on a regular basis which is the real pain.

As for the camera - if spotted, I'm probably risking a knife through the roof of the car (convertible). Cost probably in the same league as you jemmy damage.

Neighbour research first, though.

Thanks

When I was having some Car Park problems a while back, I put this sign on the dash top:

There was no camera in or around the car but unwelcome attention stopped!

I always thought with the check valve in the filler neck that you couldn't siphon gas. This comes as a surprise they can do it.
