Avid user after purchasing ‘96 XJ6 with 86k (now 93k) a couple years ago. Picked up a ‘97 XJ6L on Monday with 134K but still on the trailer due to no start/no crank. I was able to use the slight hill in the owners neighborhood to roll her onto the trailer. I’ve been looking through the no crank threads and need to keep digging. All the dash lights work, fans are coming on, fuel pump coming on but no interlock release noise coming from the console. Locked in P and red P glowing. All fuses are good. New battery as of 6/2019 which is fully charged. Perhaps a relay or two has gone bad in the console.
My wife and I grew up in the UK. My father-in-law drove a Daimler Sovereign which I’m guessing was 70’s era. If we all went out together we sat in the back seat and enjoyed the smooth powerful ride while Elton John or similar played over the stereo. I always wanted one and my wife acquiesced when the ‘96 came up. I later learned the L has more headroom which at 6’5” is always appreciated. I haven’t heard the ‘97 run yet but have high hopes it will as the owner is very honest and said it was running but started the no crank problem in his driveway. The L was originally from Chicago and has been around the country since 2004 due to his military career. No real corrosion issues but I noticed some rust in the body grounds. I took the nut off the two body grounds on the front fenders. They weren’t too bad but I cleaned them and tightened them down in case that was part of the problem. ‘97 XJ6L 134k
