New Member in Boise, Idaho
Hello, everyone. I recently purchased a 2004 XJ8 in a private party sale from a guy in Seattle. I've always wanted a Jaguar but held off the past couple cars in favor of a horrible BMW 7 series and a reliable, but boring and noisy Toyota Camry. When I moved to Boise recently, I found myself driving a lot more highway miles and yearned for a better driving experience. I had read up on the X350 series cars and thought I would try to find one that was well maintained. After a month of looking, I settled on a silver XJ8 that had about 128,500 miles on it. I decided to get the normal V8 instead of the supercharged version to avoid the risk of the coolant leak behind the supercharger I read about. I wanted a Super V8 but there really weren't any available. On the car I have, both the exterior and interior are in 8 or 9/10 condition, with just a few tiny dings and almost no wear in the black leather. I flew up to Seattle, met the guy and plunked down my $4,500 as it passed my visual inspection and test drove well enough. I feel like it was a good deal, but not a great deal, but I didn't want to get a total mystery car or something that was in need of a ton of things from the get go. I also wanted a car that had been a daily driver rather than a garage queen, as I thought it would be more reliable.
I've now had the car about three weeks and have driven it about 1,500 miles. I have read through the various threads on ZF 6 speed transmission service and believe that I will get that service done shortly. Since it doesn't seem to have any problems, I'm not in a huge hurry. I did call around and found a shop here in Boise that will do it for two hours of labor, and I supply all the parts. My other mystery is a Low Coolant warning, which I am trying to work through. It gives the warning like clockwork 5 minutes after I drive the car but the coolant level is not low and the warning goes away 5 minutes later. My final issue is a small leak of oil on the garage floor. I'm hoping that's nothing major. It's leaking right behind where the protective cover ends (just in front of the area where the black plastic transmission pan is).
Anyway, I look forward to speaking with you all. Does anyone know much about Treasure Valley British as a Jaguar service center? Or does anyone have anyone they would recommend in the Boise, Idaho area? I'd be happy to meet anyone local.
Have a great day!

Welcome G.M.
We too had a 2004 silver XJ8 which we called the "Grey Ghost." It had over 130,000 miles on it and never gave us a bit of trouble. When we decided to get a new XJL, we wanted Grey Ghost to
have a good home, so we gave it away to our good friends who always detailed it every summer. They have been thrilled to be the new owners.
Among other things, I bought it because it has both front and rear seat heaters, which has been convenient when going out to places with elderly friends of ours.
We did have good snow tires for the Grey Ghost, which made it a good car in the winter.

Welcome to the forums G.M. Webster,
Good to have you with us.
It sounds like you've already found your way to the X350 forum so there's no need for a link to it from me. The 'HOW TO' thread at the top is a good place to start for information on regular issues. You can also use the US Northwest Region forum by following this link https://www.jaguarforums.com/forum/us-northwest-64/ to find other members in your region. Th is is the best place to post a question about servicing location recommendations for Boise.
