2004 S type key fob replacement issue
2004 S type and dealer didn't tell the doors won't lock or unlock (we didn't try when we bought it). Got a replacement key fob and tried to have a store set it .but it won't receive the code.
the sequence is open the driver's doorPull the high beam lever back and hold it
turn the key to AC position
Pull back the blinker lever 4 times and then wait to hear the horn or a beep....
but it won't work...any ideas ?

The above procedure does not work on the S-type. Keys/fobs/transducers must be paired with the car via Dealer level SDD/IDS software. Other models, the X-type for example, allow for user level pairing, but unfortunately not your car.

We can't, it's been too long. I can get the dealer to program it if I must.....but can't a good locksmith also program it if they buy the software ?
I'm just trying to get my wife's car fixed so she can be safe and don't have a lot of money at the moment.
Thank you for the feedback and also for the info on the dealer computer program.

The selling dealer, or I am assuming a used car/dealer lot, should be on the hook for this as it is a safety related item. I am not aware of any locksmith specific program that would help in this instance; additionally, it is highly unlikely that a auto locksmith would invest in such product for a single use.
You did not indicate your location (at least in general terms) and there might be a fellow forum member with SDD/IDS who might be willing to help out... stranger things have happened.

In the US, many locksmiths now have a "magic box" that will program Jaguar key fobs. I just had one done for my wife's 2004 in Fort Lauderdale for $65.00. Suggest you try calling some locksmiths. Carl

Nice to hear from people that have "been there done that"
A lot of people will give advice, but first hand experience is the only way to go, if you want to be sure!
I would phone a good locksmith.
The dealer should also be able to do it, but most likely at many times the price!

We are all typing to ourselves as the OP has not responded on a while!!
People seem reluctant to provide a location (internet anonymity?)
Many of us have dealer level diagnostic equipment that can perform those functions at lees than dealer or sometimes at NO COST (I have been know to request beer donations)
