CATS System Fault
My 4.0 S-Type 2001, has a error message for a CATS System Fault. Does not look as if there is any damage to the wires to the front shocks. Is there a way to reset this? Tried to reset by unhooking the modules in the trunk, no effect.
To add - if you continue to get the CATS fault message after the hard reset - test your battery. If the battery checks out as good - you will need to get to the root cause of the CATS issue - did you check the wires/connectors on the back shocks?
Are you getting the little orange light next to the mileage indicator lit up, along with a fault in the mileage box that says “CATS System Fault”? My Car started getting this fault about a month ago.
Based on reading all the posting on the forum this is what I had to do to fix my system.
1. Check for water/moisture in the spare tire area. (I had water in the trunk.)(There are many posting about water in the trunk leading to electrical problems.)
2. The CATS control module is located in the trunk next to the spare tire closest to the rear bumper on the driver side of the car.
3. Remove the electrical connector and inspect for broken and/or corroded wires. (Apparently if you get water in the trunk area, the moisture quickly corrodes the connectors to both the back-up sensor module and the CATS control module.)
4. In my case corrosion on the power wire caused the main power wire to break off the connector pin.
I would check for this type of problem first before blaming other things in the car.

Tijoe is correct about the 'water in the boot' issue but if there is an actual fault in the system then you need to read the faults before replacing part indiscriminately.
The module is on the SCP network and will have DTCs logged.
What codes are in the module???
If no communication then it could be the module or connections failed.
The rear dampers are also CATS so they might be at fault?????

How can you locate where the water in the boot in getting in from?
I discovered about an inch of water in the back and recently after a bad rain for 2 days both reverse assist and CATS are messed up.
