Question Difference in radiators. Manual/Automatic. 03 S Type

I have a 2003 Jaguar S Type 3.0 manual trans. My problem is that the radiator is cracked and the shop is telling me that since it is a manual the radiator costs hundreds more than normal automatic. He also told me that the hose was on the middle and not on the bottom. I apologize if I'm not explaining it well. My question is what is the difference in radiator? Any help is appreciated. Thank you in advance!

Maybe look at online places for pics & prices. (Or buy used.)

Welcome to the forum Benji, when you get a moment stop by our new members area.

Sounds to me like your shop has simply bought the wrong radiator.

The 99-02 S-Type has the radiator outlet at the bottom and it was for either transmission.
The 03 onwards has it in the middle and there are different versions for auto or manual.

The genuine part number for the 03 onwards manual radiator is XR847963, get them to cross check that number.

The manual version is actually somewhat cheaper than the automatic version, even in the aftermarket versions, but still more expensive than the 99-02 version.

I think that all of the cheaper radiators on the internet like RockAuto are for the Manual gearbox cars. I have customers that want the $100 radiator but without the auto trans cooler it is useless and the correct one is cheaper from the Jag dealer.

The 2003-2005 radiators seem to leak from the right lower corner. I have replaced many for that fault.

If you HAVE the manual gearbox you are 'good to go'.

I would consider getting the aftermarket manual gearbox replacement.

Hate to revive an old threat but I've run into a bit of a conundrum. I have a 2003 Stype 3.0L with a manual 5 speed transmission. The radiator was leaking from the front right side so I purchased a replacement from Rockauto, when I tried to swap them I realized the one that came out of the car was a completely different shape and size. It is EXACTLY the same dimensions as the one for an automatic, but without any transmission cooler ports. The "manual" one from rockauto matches the part number for my VIN, and is the same design as all of the other "manual" transmission radiators online.

Should I just purchase an automatic model radiator and then block off the transmission cooler ports? Would it be necessary to block them off? Any ideas? Any assistance is greatly appreciated.

Thanks!

Joe

How about get a new shop or a second opinion. There are only two types of radiators. Those that leak and those that don't. There is a lot of price differences depending on who made it and where it was made.
https://a-premium.com/product/Radiat...xoC1S4QAvD_BwE
Premium.com has the part $128.

There are three Jaguar part numbers:

To M45254: XR82935
To VINM62935 from VINM45255: XR833764 or XR847963
From VINM62936: XR847963

https://parts.jaguarlandroverclassic.../brand/jaguar/

However, some aftermarket suppliers seem to suggest the same part for all manual V6 models and some have different models for the 2002.5 face lift.

The part number for the 6 Speed auto is different again: C2C36506

I did that and posted it. $128 bucks for the right part from Premium.com They are still posting about AT cooler lines. The manual radiator doesn't have that. Oh well...
