Default Error Codes P0171 & P0174

05-STR..brief history-Back in July I was having some service done at my normal repair shop and had them go ahead and change transmission fluid..total for service $2500.00(had brakes done too)..took car to Jiffy Lube for oil change around end of August and found the transmission fluid pan was loose and had considerable amount of "blow back" under car. Tighten everything down but continued to have leakage. Discovered that shop had NOT replaced the pan or gasket. Last week, "Charge Indicator" came on. Pulled into parking space and had car towed to a NEW repair center. The water pump had to be replaced as did the battery..$945.00..the leak was bothering me so told them to go ahead and do the transmission fluid service..$639.00...Got the car back Monday and today "Check Engine" light came on as did the amber "Restricted Performance" message. Grabbed my code reader and had Error Codes P0171 and P0174..."restricted performance" went off and has not come back on, so far...question is, could the current error codes be related to/caused by any of the recent work that I had done? How serious of a repair are these codes? I love my car and will spend whatever it takes, just want to know my pockets aren't being picked..thanks..

Sorry, I'm not too familiar with the STR so I am not sure if this might be the cause of the error codes you are getting...but my friend's '06 S-type 3.0 was throwing the same codes a few months ago and it ended up being because of a faulty MAF sensor.

With both banks running lean (P171 & 174), its most likely is something concerning the air flow. I would check the MAF sensor out and also check for any air leaks.

Hope this was somewhat helpful.

Could be an air leak (or the MAF or other item). If you can grab an OBD tool (see General Tech forum) with "live data" you can check LTFTs (long term fuel trims) at idle & about 2500rpm (in P or N) and let us know the outcome. Will show whether it's an air leak or not.

dinga, go to the air filter box. Check that is fitted to the bottom box well. Check the air intake hose leaving the air filter box and where it attaches to the metal air intake tube leading to the throttle body. Check the vaccume line attaching to the positive crankcase vent located on the passenger cam cover. It's a 2" diameter circular device with a large diamenter vaccume line. Check around for vaccume leaks that likely occured during the recent service to the car. And what's this $2500 transmission service and brake pads? What the heck?! Dude. Slow this all down and continue to reach out to us for further info. Your mechanic is srcewing you over. $950 for a water pump swap?! My mechanic wil do it for less than half that. Jasus!

Always erase the codes and see if they come back. NEVER assume they are valid until you get a repeat. Things happen and before you start changing expensive parts be sure what your problem is.

Smile Thanks...

Here's the latest...I erased the error codes and turned off the MIL indicator about 2 days ago...car is running fine and no "check engine" light. Thanks for all the input and advice....Hopefully one day I can return the favor...

You have a STR, make sure you have no vaccum leaks. Make sure the
oil dipstick oring is not missing or leaking. The lower elbow under the throttle has a oring with a plastic vaccum line going into it which leaks too. There is a vaccum line going onto the supercharger which pops off as well. Just make sure all your vaccum hoses are secure.
