Thumbs up Jaguar S Type Gearbox Part Number (code)

Good afternoon Hon members. Does the part number or code on gearboxes matters if the jags are of the same genre? For instant Jaguar S Type 3000cc V6 2003 which is fitted with gearbox code number 2R 83 7000 GK can it be swapped with a gearbox code number 6R 83 7000 DD from Jaguar S Type 2005? Please help. Many thanks

I would ask this question in S-Type tech forum for response and advice from around the World. Do you want me to move it for you?

Moved to S-Type forum. Expiring re-direct left in UK & Eire forum.

(I've added this post to bump it to the top of the threads.)

I believe from MY 2002.5 (MY 2003 in NA) on, S-Type cars were fitted with the ZF 6HP26 gearbox and may be interchangeable from year to year. Prior to that, all S-Type vehicles used the Ford 5R55N gearbox, which is a five-speed.

Look at the mounting points and other connectors to be certain.

Also, review the 'sticky' section for 'how-to' guides as there is one that pertains to servicing the gearboxes.

Thus very true MY S TYPE is a late 2003 model and has a 6HP26 2R837000GK gearbox. But after my research, I'm very surprise to note that it uses the same torque converter with the s type 2005 6HP26 6R837000DD gearbox. I'm not sure if that is an indicator that they can be swapped

2003 in the UK (Braintree in Essex, right?) means it's the 6-speed ZF transmission.

You will have to source a transmission from a 3.0L V6 model 2003 onwards.

You can't use the transmission from a V8 or Diesel because the bellhousing pattern is different...only from a 3.0L V6...

If you find a wrecked 3.0L X350 XJ the transmission would be the same also.

Either way you will have to have the TCM reprogrammed to suit the car.

Thanks for your response sir. Its true my jaguar is an s type 3.0 v6 registered in 2003 UK and it uses a 6HP26 2R837000 GK gearbox. I want to fit on a 6HP26 6R837000 DD gearbox from an s type 3.0 v6 2005. So according to your advice I won't counter any problem if I go ahead fitting this gearbox, not so sir?

There have been five part number revisions on the 6HP transmission to suit the 3.0L S-Type, each one is a "supercession" so it's backwards compatible. I cannot see how you would have a problem fitting the 2005 transmission to the 2003 model.

But you will have to get it reprogrammed to the car.

Thanks very much for this advice sir. Does it cost much to reprogram the gearbox to a jag?

To most members in North America, it's a city in the US state of Massachusetts. Very common to see towns and cities here that are named after a place in the UK or Europe. It helps when members fill their profiles out fully, taking this into account.
