...Not going far though. I just picked up a 2006 XJ8 L. I went with a quartz exterior and black interior. It's a bit of change from the S-Type in that it's quite a bit more luxurious and quieter. The S-Type I had was more of a sports sedan

Congrats on the acquisition, Mike. I'm not terribly familiar with the X350, aside from reports of air suspension issues...but know them to be considerably larger, yet near-as-makes-no-difference the same curb weight as my X300. Not to take away anything from the S-Type - Fine and enjoyable cars - but given the choice, I'd always take the XJ!

So jealous. Especially since my S is sitting on jackstands with an unhappy transmission right now! Good luck with the new car. That's probably my favorite generation of modern XJs.

Congrats, Mike. Definitely a nice step up for you. How many miles on the clock? You'll really appreciate that Quartz exterior. Hides road grime well and very easy to maintain. Did you sell or trade your S-Type? And how many miles did it have?

Hope you'll continue to check in with us S-Type guys from time to time....

Hi Jon,

Both cars had about 85K miles on them. I sold the S-Type first and then got the XJ. The XJ has quite a bit more torque than my S-Type and I got a bit surprised the first time I drove it.

So the S-Type wasn't a V8?

There were a bunch of 2005 S-Types with the V6s bought abought the same time I bought mine. Not surprising as that 75% of the S-Types were V6's and the combination was pretty good. IMHO a really combination of reliability and economy made the V6 a good car.
