No Crank/No Start - Sometimes
I have a 2000 Jaguar S type and my problem is that sometimes there is No Crank/No Start. Not every time but occasionally so I cannot drive it anywhere where I have to restart the engine. In my research, I see a number of threads where this is a permanent problem but not an intermittent issue such as mine.
Any help or suggestions would be appreciated.

Next time this happens, look at the bezel at the base of the shift lever. Unless the P or N is illuminated, the starter operation is inhibited.
If P or N is not illuminated, try wiggling the shift lever and see if that helps.

Hi, I have the same problem on my 2001 S Type 3.0 V6. It was my dad's car and it wasn't in use for at least 3 years.
Today I bought a new batery and tried to start it, everything worked, lights on, radio on, brakes, front lights but no crank. Changed gear and back to park an nothing.
I saw a video of an X Type that had the same problem, but it didn't gave any solution (lots of videos of X type "how to", almost non of S Type)
Any help on this, what should I look for and where?
Thanks in advanced!!!!

If the selector lever is functioning properly you might look at the PATS light on the top of the dash to see if a code is present to help diagnose.
Also check to see if P1582 (EDR) is logged as well as P1260.
You will only be able to read the Engine Data Recorder with dealer level diagnostics but the EDR can tell you what conditions existed when the fault occurred.
A P1260 will disable START if the key is incorrect (or the KTM/INSTPK thinks the key is incorrect)
Try another key when the NO START occurs?

First, lock the car with the key fob. Press the lock button a second time to set the alarm system. The horn should chirp once. Watch the little red light. It should flash once every few seconds or so to show the system is armed. Now press the key fob unlock button twice to unlock all the doors. The red light should go out. Now hop in the driver's seat and turn the key to RUN (Not start yet). The red light should come on solid ONCE for about 3 seconds and then go out. If it flashes anything after that, you've got a stored fault and the security system may have inhibited the starter.

Thanks guys, I will check all you have suggested tomorrow, the car is still in my mom's house.
Can't use another key or fob to try to open or start the car because there's only one key
Other thing, if is a security failure, can this be happening because the key fob isn't working (open, change battery and clean it today, lots of dirt inside, hope that tomorrow works) and I open the car directly with the key?

Well, after cleaning key fob still not working. Try several things that I watch on YouTube and the things you guys told me, and the car still doesn't crank neither start.
Probably fuel pump or level arm is damaged, because the fuel level is in Empty and there's a message of low fuel, but I put gas on it on Saturday.
I recorded this two videos, one is the instrument cluster and the other from the security light when I try to start the engine, feel free to watch it, this is in case you see something that I don't.
Next step: I will send the car to my mechanic, that way he can plug a computer and see if there's any error or the fuel pump or the engine starter

The easiest way to check to see if it is the fuel pump is to disconnect the air intake and spray some cold start. Have somebody else try to start the car at the same time.
If it starts then try changing the fuel filter, drain the petrol tank because petrol with ethanol degrades and forms a funny last which can have blocked everything.

For your situation, when the fault is active, observe the indicator light for the anti-theft system. Under the certain conditions, the security system may inhibit the starter operation. See posts #6 and #7 above for details of how the light is supposed to work when all is good. If a fault is stored, the light will flash out a code to tell you what is wrong.
If the indicator light is good, locate relay R15 in the fusebox under the hood. Place your finger on R15 and have a helper turn the key to start. You should feel this relay click, even if the starter doesn't respond. If the relay clicks, that tells us the control circuit is sending the proper signal for the starter to engage. If no click, swap with another relay of the same size and try again, in case the relay itself was at fault. R10 (blower motor) would be a good donor for a swap. As long as your heater/AC fan is working properly, you'd know R10 is good.
