Default Rear ball joint boots

I noticed that the rear ball joint boots are split. Still grease in there and surely not worn out at 20 thou. Certainly not worth buying new control arms.

So I did a quick search and came up with this.

Ball Joint Boot - Auto Parts Warehouse

Perhaps an alternative if I could get the sizeing correct?

The Energy Suspension site has them listed by dimensions. If someone had a set off to measure it would be great. I figure anything would be better that the split open ones.

This site has what seems to be all the dimensions available

Thanks, I have a set of front uppers already taken off, I think the BJ's should be the same size as the rear.

I will measure them this weekend and order the approriate ones, I plan to take the vehicle to the shop and replace the rear tie rods and links. might as well do this at that time.

Please post back what you find. Part #s would be awesome. This would be a huge savings if it could work.

Will do.

On a related note, this is the first time I see a seller offering the front upper control arm bushings. Along with the boots, this can save some of us $$ by avoiding having to purchase a brand new arm:

JAGUAR FRONT UPPER WISHBONE CONTROL ARM BUSH BUSHING | eBay

Does anyone know if the upper front control arm bushings and rear upper bushings are interchangable?

part 9.13101 seems to be the closest in dimensions. They are posted as 84-87 honda civic tie rod boots.

$4 a pair

Thanks for posting that. I assume you are going to give them a try. Let us know how they work out.

As a side note, looks like some over engineering on keeping the boot sealed and in place but they forgot to make it out of a material that holds up.

I was able to find a universal dust boot at NAPA Auto with 5/8 shaft opening. It fits really well.

As for the rear upper bushings:
The diameter is not the same as the upper front arm bushings.
I will search for universal bushings that can be pressed in. Maybe another vehicles will fit.

This could be a great fix for the cracked rubber ball joint boots that show up way too frequently. The ball joints are usually fine but a real expensive repair because of a $2 boot!. Please keep us posted what you find. I'm sure several of us are tuned in to your post.
Thanks,
Bob
