Default I know cats don't like water but this is ridiculous!

OK, so every time I wash the car, or it rains I'll get one, and only one instance of a minute or so of restricted performance... The ubiquitous 0171 and 0174 codes are thrown.

There are no leaks (water in or air / vacuum out) and no concerns at all if I keep the temperamental beast dry.

This one has me stumped. I can reset the codes immediately and it's fine, even if it's still raining and I drive for hours! I have to wait until next time it rains to repeat the problem.

I'm thinking an exorcism is called for.

Have you checked the boot/battery area for water ingress?
Boot : "trunk".

Boot, trunk, back bit of the car is as dry as an englishmans bath mat (no offense )

Airbox also dry, MAF dry, from air filter to throttle body dry (and clean), infact all sensors staying quite dry...

no problem, I'm old enough not to have adjusted to "PC" unless absolutely required. I'm hoping some of the S type seniors will be along soon because I'm still fairly new to mine and learning about the vagaries of the model and brand.

Check for water entering the cowl area at the bottom of the windscreen causing the loom connections for the injectors and coil units to intermittently work.

Not sure about cats not liking water...

Look at fuel trims too. Something is wrong and it may even be an air leak.

Here is some North American TSB info. May or may not be relevant.
Water Entry TSB seems to be in the same area for many faults.

Hiya,
Yup, was a water leak around the base of the windscreen, lower left side. Sealed and fixed

Groovy! Thanks for the ever-important update.

Updates like this are so important, I'm putting together a crack team to track down forum members that never post any updates. We will find recalcitrant members and subject them to public shaming until they update their threads. We'd have vests and ID badges so it would be all legit. Who wants in?
