Default cruise controle

2002 jaguar x type with v6 3.0

My cruise controle does not work. When I push the cruise controle "on" I get no error messages. Just nothing.

Things i have done to attempt to resolve issue.
1: I have checked and replaced all corresponding fuses associated with cruise controle.
2: I have replaced the button switches on steering wheel with 3 different ones from junkyard. Why 3? Just in case the first 2 i pulled from junkyard where bad.

The car has aftermarket radio. The module that let's you controle the radio from steering wheel was never installed. Is it possible that this could be the cause. The radio that was installed was Jensen vx7021. Nice radio but just a hair to tight for a flush fit.

What are other things to check. Most post I see about this are where people are getting "cruise not avsilable". I dont even get that.

I haf an aftermarket Pioneer brand stereo fitted in my car when I bought it and the steering wheel controls for the stereo and the phone didn't work. However, the cruise control was fine. I bought a kit and had it installed to get the wheel controls going again - not too expensive and all work fine. I also bought a reversing camera from fleabay for just over 10 bucks and had it (with another kit) installed as well - much better than the useless parking aid. Not much help on the Cruise, but all I have.

I am unsure what these wires are and if they have anything to do with cruise controle problem. The plug is behind my radio and other wire is a lone black wire with yellow runner that looks cut. It is near shifter. Any idea what these are.

Also I checked the two plugs on brake pedal. Black plug continuity comes and goes as brake is pressed and released. So it is good. The green plug has no continuity when brake is pressed or released. Not sure what it is for. Just out of curiosity I unplugged green plug. No errors came up. Car still drove fine. Alas still no cruise controle.

Please any other ideas on where or what to check? I would really like to h as very cruise conttole.

Green is the cruise control cancel relay, gray/black is the brake light relay

What the the ohm values I should be looking for on green relay. Or is it just a continuity test. Is it open circuit pedal depressed or released?

Ok. So for a tempory test I could bug circuit and see if cruise controle comes on? Is this correct? If that works then there are 2 x type at local junkyard and I can go steal one or both.

Ok. Tested green brake circuit. It tested bad. Then ran a test with bypass. . . When I drive I hit cruise controle on, and . . NOTHING! No error message no cruise controle nothing. I went to scrap yard and pulled a new green brake circuit, tested good and replaced mine anyway.

Still back to square one. All fuses are good. Steering wheel cruise module tested with multimeter, values change on every button press. Changed anyway.

But cruise will not work. I do not even get "cruise not availsble"

Other ideas where to test or look?

Since you do not have car info in your signature, is your car an automatic or manual?

2002 jaguar x type. 3.0L, automatic.

Stock radio removed. backup cam added. No other electrical modifications to me knowledge. Cruise controle has not worked since day I purchased. Roughly 1.5 years ago and only drove it 1100 miles. Odometer is just shy of 130000.

I purchased a newer style steering wheel with intent to retrofit. Never did. Still original wheel.

Question? What voltage readings should I get to steering wheel plug. I just pulled battery and will remove airbag after work and check. Figure a good place to start is to see if I'm getting voltage. Then from the steering wheel where does that harness go? Directly to a main computer or to something else?

The reason for my question is similar to the brake relays on an automatic, on a manual there's one on the clutch as well.

Btw, on first page under "stickies" you can download the complete wiring diagram to answer your question of where does it go.

Found the ohm values expected for the brake light switch (not the cruise cancel switch) =

the brake light switch should be a very low resistance (under 5 ohms) when it is just sitting on the counter. If you measure across the contacts and push even a little bit on the switch plunger, you should see the resistance rise to something very high (over 200K ohms).

Hi Jocelyn,
Did you ever figure out your problem with the cruise control? My cruise control works intermittently as if it shorts on and off. Also speeds up at will. Most of the time the cruise control is nonfunctioning. I thought my issue was related to an aftermarket usb radio thing. Just removed it and still the cruise control is acting up.

If you found a solution to your problem I would love to know.

No, I gave up. Decided to live without cruise. Replaced cruise module, switches under pedal, fuses, vacuum lines. I give up. I gave up. I am not meant to have it.

I swapped in a wooden wheel from a newer x-type and just left the switch off. Now there there is no switch my buttons no longer malfunction.
