I've read statements about the jag's not liking the cold at all, but never looked into it. Living in Canada, it does get cold. The odd times I will have the car not being able to start at all (-10 to -15 C), and can only get started when boosted. Any idea's? Is this just another common problem, or is there a way to avoid this. (Gas tank is always over half full)

Boosted as in battery-boosted? Sounds to me your battery is bad.

My car has never failed to start, even in -30 C without using the block heater.

 

I recharged the battery before but to no avail, I figured this would be good as new.

 

You probably need a new battery (recharging isn't enough) and synthetic oil if you want good cold starting.

 

I had a similar problem with my X Type. A new battery resolved the problem.

 

We are in western NC. During the winter we have mornings in the teens. The synthetic oil is a must for sure. My filter is designed to keep oil in the top end when not running to ensure lube during cold starts. Have your batt checked. If there is a dead cell or cells you could charge forever and it will not take the charge. If a new batt is called for, make sure you get the max cranking amp for the jag available. Good luck.

 

Not sure where the 'Jags don't like the cold' statement comes from. Mine starts easily in -30C weather, no block heater, no synthetic oil.

 

Mine has always started in the cold, although I do use synthetic oil. I've not installed a block heater yet, but I have one to put in.

The X Type seems very sensitive to the battery being in top shape, my parents X recently refused to start and was having weird issued with the HID headlights. Occasionally one would not come on, sometimes neither would come on. A new battery cured everything.

 

Jagboi64.. THAT may be the solution to my issue with the HID, would be really odd if it was the battery and nothing electrical. The instrument console screen was going blank.. I charged the battery and it fixed that.. not the HID.

Well I know mine HATED to start in anything less than 40deg outside. but after alot of TLC it's fine now.

 

Mine lives outside in Boston MA and even when temps dip into single digits I have never had any problems starting the engine (below 0 F could be different but I haven't had to deal with that). I'd check for other causes if you're having starting trouble at those temperatures.

The biggest problem I've at those low temperatures is that the door latch gets stuck in the open position and the door won't close. It seems to be a problem with Ford latch mechanisms since the exact same thing happened with a '97 Ford Taurus that I once owned.
