I have had my XJ8 in storage over the winter. I had removed the battery to keep it on trickle, when I put back and hooked it up my car started right away but my brake will not release, would it have something to do with the battery being removed ???

Absolutely! Common on all Jag EPBs of this era.

A timely reminder that isolating the battery for long periods will trigger the need to re-calibrate the EPB. Sometimes this is a requirement eg engine rebuild or extensive electrical or body repairs but, generally, should be avoided just for over-wintering in those climates that need this . . . because modern "smart" chargers or "battery maintainers" (C-Tek etc) are designed to be permanently connected, stepping down when battery is fully charged, but kicking back in when the battery depletes.

Back to re-calibrating . . . use search tools . . . read the process . . . then print and keep a copy in glove box. Easy peasy!
Cheers and best wishes

Once you get it working, if you've a paddle for it then when next you want to store the car stop the EPB applying by holding the paddle down as you remove the key.

At least that way if it sticks it sticks off.

Thanks John. I do this so automatically whenever I garage mine, that I'm guilty of forgetting to mention it.
Cheers and best wishes,

You have to recalibrate your auto-up windows, too.

Thank you everyone, the brake problem was fixed using your fixes. Still have a problem with the tire fault. Checked again the pressures made sure all was good, drove for a number of miles, but still got the fault message.

I'd have the wheel sensors checked. Most tire shops have the meter to do that if you don't have one. Some cars the sensor battery can be checked through OBD2 but I don't know about the XJ8. The battery in them typically lasts 12-15 years.

I believe JagV8 is referring to the paddle/lever in the middle console that can be pulled up or pushed down to set or release the epb
