Default To Chirp or Not to Chirp?

Maybe cats dont chirp? My 01 XK8 chirps when I set the alarm but the 04 XJ8 alas does not.
The handbook says it will "(if enabled"). Would that be "enabled" at the factory/dealer or can I do it somehow? Handbook does not explain further....
Thanks
Alan

I have the Mongoose cable and the IDS/SDD software and was able to set the lock function to chirp and it works fine.

Unless you have the setup mentioned above, it seems to be a dealer only procedure.

This hardware Mongoose JLR Cable and this software allow you to have dealer level capabilities in your own garage. If you search in this forum the keyword Mongoose you will find tons of information.

If you are a DIYer and you like to save money and time, these are musts..

Alanroberts50 - I agree with Lagonia's sentiments but you will need the patience of a saint, the tenacity of a bulldog and enthusiasm in spades to get to grips with SDD and a Mongoose.

On my '04 XJR the chirp sounds just like to horn on my '64 VW beetle. I just can't deal with the wimpy sound, so I left it disabled. Will your's chirp if you try to set the alarm with a door still open? Mine does, even with the alarm confirmation chirp disabled.

WDS has the capability of enabling or disabling this function. (I just enabled my chirp today) and I agree - it's wimpy...

Yes mine does chirp if I leave a door open which I think is useful.

What's WDS? Is that enabled through a laptop?

WDS is the dealer level diagnostic machine the Jaguar dealerships used back in the 90's and to about 2007 before IDS came about. I found my unit on eBay loaded with WDS - version 46 or 47

This machine comes in handy if you own a Jaguar and are an avid DIY'er. Does anything the dealership can do - it runs slow (Windows 98 platform) but gets the job done.
