Default Headlight switch - operation not as per manual

Morning!

I had a read of my manual after starting to poke about with the controls (the car is new to me, I'm new to North American Jaguars).
However, the headlight stalk doesn't work as I'd expect.

Position 0 has the lights off, that's fine.
Position =(><)= (parking lights) does absolutely nothing (not even the Canadian adaptation) with the key in, out, in any gear position, parking brake on or not.
Position ≡(> (dim lights) brings all the lights on as I would expect for that position, except when the key is removed, and that then leaves the lights as I would expect them in the parking light position.

Seems unusual, is that the norm for cars with the auto headlights feature?

Also, a side note, did the North American cars all say "BOOT OPEN" on the display when you pop the trunk?

Thanks

You can change the INSTPK display language.
My sedans have side lights with the switch in the position I or position II with KEY OFF.
The headlamps will work with the KEY ON only.(except the MAIN BEAM FLASH will work without key on.
AUTO will work with TWILIGHT SENTINEL if light is dark enough and KEY ON.

If your car is Canadian, it is different than Federal USA.

Good to know. The language doesn't bother me at all, that was curiosity!

It's definitely not a Canadian spec vehicle, so possibly a switch issue, given the parking lights do come on.

Thanks!

There are two ENGLISH INSTPK settings.
UK English and US English.
They have different 'terminologies' for conditions or warnings.(ie. BOOT OPEN vs TRUNK OPEN)

I get a warning chime on the headlights position only. Parking lights position does nothing.

I would guess that a wire in the multi-function switch has become broken/disconnected?
The switch is also the turn signal switch and is known to have broken wires at the solder joint.

Ah, if that's a common problem then that makes sense.

I'll pull the column shroud off and have a look once I'm done fixing all the broken plastics on the gearshift.
Thank you!

Very helpful, thank you. Looking at the construction of that harness connector, I'm not surprised the wires fracture off.

I'll dig into it. Appreciate the help!
