Tie Rod End Nut
01 X308
Could someone shed some light on this: are the tie rod ends supposed to have a locking nut? I tried changing my tie rod ends this weekend and it was the most frustrating task ever due to it being rusted and frozen (thanks to the brine and Salt NY uses
) a 30 minute job turned into a 3 hour jobs. Nonetheless after all is said and done - is there a locking nut on our vehicles. According to the SNG Barrett Catalog we are, and from a video showing another x308 replacing tie rod ends there was a locking nut, but not on mine.
edit: specifically asking about the locking nut where the tie rod end attaches to the inner tie rod.

I was asking about the one on the actual tie rod (not the nut with the ball joint) but if you know both I could use confirmation of the size. From my research I found that the non ball joint nut is M12, how about the one that attaches to the ball joint end?
Just for clarification purposes only, there’s an inner tie rod end and an outer tie rod end. The inner tie rod end is the long threaded shaft that connects to the steering rack directly. The outer tie rod end connects to the knuckle.
