Default CD changer wiring/compatability, '94/'95 xj6

I have a 1994 xj6 base model. The factory radio unit has a button for tape/CD. The car does not have a CD changer. Are the xj6 cars pre-wired for a CD changer? I have acquired a CD changer, cartridge, and mounting brackets from a 1995 xj6, along w/ the harness pigtail, and would like to install it in the 1994. Thanks, David.

If you see a cable right under the right trunk hinge it should be a wiring for CD . However, I don't know if bases came with the pre wired .
Not to break your party but '95 uses Harmon Kardon ,'94 a different brand . Hopefully, sockets are same

I am almost SURE that the Series III, XJ40 and X300 all use the same Alpine CD changer. The change came with the X308 and X100 CDCs The harness connectors are different and won't plug into the different models.

The harness connector should be taped/tucked up near the left boot lid hinge.

If it plugs in it should work OK.

Default CD changer wiring, etc.

RegentV12, motorcarman.... Thanks for your replies. After an afternoon of disassembling the trunk interior panels, etc., I have located the harness for the CD changer. It is indeed pre-wired for at least the base model 1994 xj6. The harness and connector was taped up inside a wiring harness at the right trunk hinge location, behind the edge of the fuel tank. Not a part of it showing. This might help others in locating the connector and harness. The CD unit itself is badged as Jaguar, part # LXF4160BA. It is 6 disc, made in Japan, but no mention of the manufacturer. Date of manufacture is April 1995. The plug in is the same for the April 1995 manufacture, as for the 1994. Thanks again. David.

Default Cd Player

Something else to keep in mind when installing the cd player. I found when I installed the cd player in my 94 xj6 that I had to pull the radio out to plug in the other end of the cable. Apparently the cables are installed at the factory but not necessarily plugged in.

Default CD changer cable

Did you have to take the radio completely out to find that CD changer cable behind the dash

I don't know of any other way to gain access to the back of the head unit other than to remove the radio!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

The cables plug into the BACK OF THE RADIO HEAD UNIT.

I would like to do the same, do you have a picture of the CD changer brackets?
Can you see if they are like these?

Mine is a XJ40 XJR 1993
I would like to use the original holes in the trunk and the OEM bracket.
Thank you.

The CDDJ (Compact Disc 'Disc Jockey') units that bolt to the top of the boot behind the fuel tank use simple 'L' shaped angle brackets.

You could just bend some sheet metal and find some M4 or M5 (I forget which) short screws to fasten them to the CDDJ and them mount it to the body of the car.
