Radio Cassette Player Repaired!

Radio Cassette Player Repaired!
Just picked up my first 93 xj6 and instantly I am in love.
i have been a Jag lover for years and finally am a proud owner.
I guess I’m just gonna jump in here and get right to it!
First issue is when I test drove the radio worked with sound. Now there’s no sound coming out of speakers but radio still turns on. Also when I put a cassette in the player it constantly cycles from side 1 to side 2.
Now I spoke with my resident Jag guy and he said it was a common issue and that I either need to find a replacement radio or have mine basically rebuilt. I’m here for a second opinion and a little bit more knowledge.
As you can see from the picture below, I’ve already started to tear out the radio unit.. just had to stop because I had a phone call from my boy and got sidetracked with him!!

Hi GranpaDz,
Welcome to the Jaguar Forums! It's great to have you with us!
That is a really nice-looking XJ40 and appears to have been well cared for. Congratulations!
Regarding your radio, that is definitely a very common issue, and since it's been years since I tried to play a cassette or use a cassette-to-phone adapter, I may not be remembering correctly, but I think I solved the problem by disassembling the unit, cleaning and lubricating various gears and moving parts, and replacing maybe two rubber belts. If I recall correctly, it took a great deal of disassembly to get to the belts, but I was able to find new replacements from an online source by just estimating their "pre-stretched" dimensions.
When you get a chance, please visit the New Member Area - Intro a Must and post a required introduction so we can learn something about you and your Jag and give you a proper welcome.
Cheers,
Don

Hi GranpaDZ,
Congratulations on repairing your cassette player and replacing your speakers!
I have merged your update with the previous thread so future readers will be able to see the whole story, and I've added Cassette to the title so others will more easily find your thread in a search.
You could help others by posting the sources where you purchased the new belt and speakers.
Cheers,
Don

Follow up
This thread was so helpful, I'd like to continue where you left off . . .
I found the bands on eBay and Amazon, where they sell a batch of 50 or so in all different sizes for less than $10. I also had no idea how to configure the bands (there's the very big one and one little one), but the arrangement seems to be generic, and many webpages have pictures with the configuration. E.g.,
I still have to actually do the fixing, and I'll follow up with that in a day or two with my own pictures. This is really helpful. Thanks. I emailed five old car stereo restoration outfits and they all wrote back that the radio was too old and the parts to fix it are all discontinued.
