Default Windows and sunroof will not work, XJ6 1985

I recently purchased a 1985 XJ6. Before I bought it, all windows and sunroof operated. A few hours later on the drive home, neither windows nor sunroof operate, no matter which position the master switch is in. I have replaced the master switch in the console with one from Moss Motors. I have replaced the relay on the left side near the fuses, the one that I think is the window lift relay (markings, Lucas UK, 87, 86, 85, 30/51). What else to check? Thank you.

Based on the wiring diagram, it appeared that the most likely two components that would prevent all the windows and the sunroof from operating, are the valet switch and the window relay. The valet switch measured good with the multi-meter (either open or about 0.5 ohms), same as the new switch, but I went ahead and replaced it anyway. When the valet switch replacement did not get the windows/roof to work, I replaced the relay. In summary, I replaced the two components that appeared to have control to all windows and roof. Thanks.

it is a well known issue that the window and sunroof switches themselves stop making contact.
Have you tried opening the rear windows with the rear console switches ? If they work, then you know it is the front switches. Just make sure you reconnected the valet switch correctly.
All the 7 switches can be disassembled and cleaned and they will work again, no need to buy new ones.

Check the 'otter' thermal breakers for continuity.

All three thermal breakers test good for continuity.

The window switches in the rear (rear console switches) do not work, either.

all 7 switches not responding point to the master or valet switch wires reversed, assuming everything else is fine.

Do you have the S57 Wiring Guide ? if not, download it free from my website:

Are you sure you replaced the correct relay?

The window relay is at the extreme RH side of the dash

Doug is correct, the relay is on the RH side. Same thing happened to me and I just replaced the relay. This is what I used. A common relay on the Jag.

The windows and sunroof are now working. I replaced the relay on the right, the one I could not find in the beginning of this troubleshooting exercise. Thank you all for the information and guidance. Thank you for the S57 Wiring Guide; a tremendous resource. Again, thank you all for taking the time to respond.

Aloha!

Was just driving and windows stopped working. Found this thread and think might be the trick. Does anyone have an image of what I am looking for with this relay/thermal cut out? Far right side of dash in between dash and passenger door? Much thanks!

Photos, far right side. I had to dig a bit to find it. Bought a replacement from NAPA.
