Default Delay Relay - DAC6053 - details rqd

Yes another question about 'that' relay - the delay relay used as part of the upgraded wiper mechanisms pre facelift. Listed as part of the flash sheet to upgrade the wiper assembly of pre facelift cars.

Does anyone have a good quality picture of DAC6053, particularly the circuit within it and any other identifying features. I cannot imagine that Jaguar had a bespoke delay relay built for this - the part number returns so few results that it must have either a different number as a generic or Jaguar had more than one number for it.

If anyone of course has one that they would consider the sale of please PM.

I have shelved the introduction of the facelift mechanism for now as it will delay getting the car mobile - too many unknowns and fabrication needed on the bulkhead due to mounting variation - and have instead obtained a late pre facelift electrolux setup. I will do the facelift conversion at some point but it is just one of those project extenders that I can do without right now.

This is what I have. The first image VIN to 154404 I believe is the cars pre modification - i.e. mine - and the centre and bottom are what followed, note the removal of the ground from pin 2 of the column switch and the run/park change in the motor - the relay doesn't change but the interior switch does on the bottom drawing - the document describes the relay as 'blue' but provides no details. So what is the part number of the blue relay .... DAC1329 / Lucas 33381A ??

I hope these help. As I recall, the chip in both versions was the same. The B and G in the component side photos mean Blue and Green relays, respectively.

I'll upload an article by Bernard Emden on an alternative in the next post.

Absolutely spot on. Have you ever tried to switch these - they don't look significantly different - looks like an added diode, transistor and link in the blue - way more complex than the wiring would have you believe - just guessing here but I bet the blue is a 'lessons learned' from the green - and the blue ones are pretty easy to find here. I actually found a green one too in Germany so ordered that but I think I'll get a blue one too.

Be interesting to see what Bernard came up with.

I never tried switching them. I thought I could mod one to work the the Electrolux, but I found what I needed instead.

That is one thorough 'how to' - some effort went into that and I'm so glad you posted it, so much useful information.

FYI, If you just fit the electrolux wiper stuff, and change nothing, everything works as it should, except for the intermittent wipe feature that does not work.

Ya know me Greg, it will in mine but I rolled back to this option precisely because it is a drop in solution with no electrical or mechanical messing about but the pre facelift mechanisms are surprisingly hard to find in good condition - not to mention quite expensive as a result - if the relay change works for the intermittent that's great but if not I wasn't planning on this car seeing much rain.

This is really a stop gap unless it works well enough then I will just sell on the facelift mechanism which requires the mountings on the bulkhead to be altered, two old ones cut off and three new ones welded in. It is this hacking and welding that terminated the install of the facelift mechanism because I'm not tearing out the dash etc just to make that happen. I know I could use adhesives but once I cut off the old mechanism mounts there's no going back. For those that believe you can swap the grill and it will work - no it won't - I'll take some pictures of the two side by side later.

The image below is all three 'versions'. The very early is top, the pre facelift 'Electrolux' is bottom and the facelift centre. The facelift grille is plastic and everything locates on the mounting frame, on the pre facelifts everything mounts to the grille, note that the washer jets changed for the heated version, the mechanical linkage also changed at each version - I'm not sure if the jets changed between the later pre-facelift and the facelift - I have the jets on the facelift unit and the temperature sensor but not sure what to do - I shall ponder that some more but for now I have a washer bottle to fit ....
