Default XJS V12 5.3 Injector Brand Swap

Hi crew. Can the original injectors be swapped with another manufacturers injector. Ie a more common model with a better, lower price.

If you can find a match. That needs to be physical match, volume match and electrical match.
Might not be so easy considering the age of the vehicle.

I wish that I could say, give a definitive, but I can't - and wouldn't dare.

I would keep bumping this post, yes, but also start digging into Google and the forum. Find what you find, add your discoveries here with questions, keep digging. Reference and the cross, etc. What injectors does RockAuto (for instance) say will work? What have you found or seen from a direct query and net search? Something has to come up...?

The electrics in an injector almost never go wrong unless fried. Buying some injectors off a breaker and refurbishing them with new seals etc, running some cleaner through them on a home made rig as well, and you have a far cheaper option.

No, and yes. So, with the OEM EFI ECU, it expects injectors of a certain Ohms (Low Z injectors) and a characterized flow curve. Even if you replaced the injectors with ones that per-spec had the same Ohm rating, and same base flow rate, they might not have the exact same characterized flow curve (depending on design) resulting in fueling that was *close* but not perfect at some RPM/s Temps Calculations.

That said there are *clone* brands that make the same spec'd injectors that aren't Bosch brand. It's much harder to judge if they're as good. There ARE Chinesium substitutes for as low as $26ish that supposedly cross for the same Bosch part number but *most* demonstrations of such injectors (for different substitutions) on youtube videos show just how poorly they perform.... rarely working to spec.

Of course if you have an aftermarket programmable EFI ECU unit, you can size a set of injectors appropriately for the expected fueling needed for your application using either Hi Z or Low Z injectors that may or may not be of similar flow rate to the OE injectors (depending on what's needed.)

This is all the data I have on the HE injectors

cc/min @ 3 bar 196
Resistance 2.4ohm

Pulse 'Idle' 2.6 to 3.1ms
Pulse 'Drive' 2.9 to 3.1ms
Full Throttle 10 to 11.6ms

Running Pressure 28.5 to 30 psi This contradicts a stated 45psi inlet regulation and 35psi outlet - later cars had only one regulator

Bosch Part Number 280150161

I cannot find information on fuel pressures that doesn't conflict it is 'around' 3 bar but depending where you read it changes. For what it is worth the spray pattern / atomisation on the injectors at 3 bar is far from good by modern standards.

I have no data on the impact of the vacuum on the fuel pressure beyond that it should be maintained at 43.5 lb/in² above manifold pressure

NOTE : This is for the HE engine version

Wow thanks guys. I have the originals and will give them a good go through as I have to pull the fuel rain anyway. They have been refurb but I don't trust them as she's running rough but sitting for a long time between runs as I'm still in the middle of the resto. I'll clean the plugs as they may be fouled and give the injectors another clean and test. I have heard that Australian Holden Commodore V6 are similar/same but I don't know about the spray pattern match etc etc. As usual it seems if you can use the correct part then you should.
