Default Battery Tenders and such

Can battery tenders be used on the 2010 XKR? Can a Jump start "battery box" be used to jump the car if needed? Trying to think ahead since I won't initially be using the XKR as my daily driver. Thanks.

Many people, including myself, use the CTEK battery maintainers. Excellent bit of kit negating the need for a jump start box.

"Battery Tender" is a brand name that includes their "Battery Tender, Jr." model. I don't recommend them because the one I had was made in China and overheated and melted the case. Fortunately, it didn't cause my house to burn down.

I recommend the CTEK brand of battery maintainer. It's very popular with Forum members and there are several models to choose from that are sold on Amazon. Search this Forum for the various models and ways to hook it up. Note that for the 5.0L models, you should connect the negative CTEK cable directly to a chassis ground, and NEVER directly to the negative battery terminal.

Been using the 'Battery Tender' brand maintainer for 4 years now, always plugged in, sitting on a shelf in the garage, never gets more than warm to the touch.
It's not the plastic 'Jr' model that almost smoked Stuart S's house down, but (now I'll have to check the model name when I get home) one that I picked up at Costco, its in a nice metal case.
Bought a couple of 15' extension cables (that have the plug connectors on both ends), so I can plug the car in when parked on either side of the garage, or even a car parked in the driveway (for an extra bump in charge if its going to be a really cold winter night).

Default Noco Genius

I've only had my XKR a month and had battery issues. I use a Noco Genius battery charger with success on motorcycles and have set up the XKR for charging. I also just installed a new Die Hard battery.

I use this one. $24. Have had it for years. has both clamp terminals and bolt on. Never an issue and don't get the obsession with spending $60 - $100+ dollars on a ctek.

I have been using ctek 7005 for a few year ,but now needed a more powerful unit that would put out more amps. I found one that does everything that ctek does and triple the power which I need for my ECU reflashings , and the unit is half the price of ctek units , I paid $65 shipped.
Check out: "Clore Automotive PL2320" does agm, Gel and standard battery types

The car can be jump started (do it the Jaguar way) but I worry about voltage spikes etc so go with the above ideas if you can.

I've got several Harbor Freight battery tenders. They work fine. I don't keep them hooked up all the time. The connecting wires are long enough that I can keep the plug/transformer unit outside the trunk. I will plug them in in the morning when I'm at home and keep an eye on them during the day and will unplug them when they reach full charge, which I confirm with a multi meter. I even completely charged a flat battery that was in my theft recovered Explorer last month. It only got a bit warm, but I did the process over two days, disconnecting and unplugging at night. I keep an eye on everything that I keep plugged in in the garage.

Yes, if our OP is not going to be around to keep an eye on things 24/7 (God I can't wait till I can retire and practically just live in the garage), I recommend spend a bit more and buy a superior product. I've previously posted about my scary experiences with some Sears DieHard branded maintainers and a failed Battery Tender that got me to switch to CTEK. The CTEKs have some sensitive logic circuitry that will shut themselves down if they detect problems.

If you can afford an XKR, you can afford a CTEK. The additional cost is less than $50, and is worth it.

Except for this one ...

To each his own. Brought to you by the good people who also gave you Saab and Ikea. It isn't a matter of cost to me. It's just marketing. Yes there are crap tenders out there but you really seem to buy into the marketing hype of this product, as do others. You can find plenty of threads where someone's ctek failed.
