Default Jaguar Said Supercharger Feeds Oil from Engine?

XKR X150 Supercharger Oil?

Took 2010 XKR to official Jaguar/Land Rover dealership service center. Car is at 65,000 miles. I asked them to check the supercharger oil. They were already replacing the supercharger belt due to “dry rot”. They kept insisting that the supercharger oil change isn’t necessary and that the supercharger simply feeds from the engine oil.

Is this true? I know people use that hole in the supercharger to siphon old oil out and put new oil in. But in mine, the 5.0 L engine, it’s a PITA to do this without removing the supercharger because of the location of the hole. Otherwise I would just do it myself.

Part of me feels like the dealership could have made easy money off me by doing the supercharger oil. But the other part of me feels like maybe it’s not in their instructions and they just don’t feel the desire to fix a somewhat less common part of an “older” Jag?

Should I take it to an independent Jaguar mechanic to do the SC oil, or is Jaguar right that there’s no need?

It's separate oil, and a different viscosity. On the 4.2 it can be drained and filled from the front of the engine. On the 5.0, it is a right pain as the drain and fill are both at the rear and barely accessible.

thank you! That’s what I thought. Why did Jaguar keep insisting it’s not something to be done when I asked?

Not relevant but - many years ago in 1989 I bought a brand new XJS. When I asked why they no longer made XJS's with manual transmissions, the manager told me that there were no manual transmissions made that could take the power of the V12.

Ask them to review the Workshop Manual. Details for the fluid change are found therein.

It is of my opinion that they just don't WANT to do it.

Maybe they got it confused with the coolant because that is fed from the engine.

I don’t know… I use the table of contents or the search function.
The workshop manual is available for download on this forum.

That franchise is demonstrating how deep their knowledge is (or, rather, isn't). You may want to have the same amount of enthusiasm for using them...

There is a sticky on how to replace the 5 litre supercharger oil. Not trivial as CeeJay said, but doable.

I'd think "a right pain" isn't very trivial.
Now on the 4.2..........

I was concurring with you that the job is a right pain, i.e. not trivial
