Default 2007 XK Convertible - Maintenance History for 8 Years and 135,000 Miles

2007 XK Convertible Blue. Thought you might be interested in my maintenance history and the costs after 8 years and 135,000 miles.

History does not include routine oil changes and minor things like changing light bulbs.

9777 miles - steering wheel control for track selection replaced under warranty.

14222 miles - low speed hit in rear - bumper cover replaced. $1754.44

20300 miles - another low speed hit in rear - bumper cover, reverse sensor and reinforce bar replaced. Beginning to think blue is a jinxed color. $2761.38

20341 miles - wheel alignment, intermittent battery problem solved by tightening positive battery cable clamp, intermittent failure outside temperature gauge, problem solved by display module update and tightening. Corrected under warranty

21134 miles -discovered paddle shifters were reversed (don’t use them so took a while to discover this). Corrected under warranty.

36500 miles - lousy stock tires replaced with Continental Extreme Contact DWS tires $1068.00

45235 miles - passenger side small window motor and regulator assembly replaced under warranty. Right visor making clicking noise when raised or lowered. Visor replaced under warranty.

44986 miles -front and rear brake pads and oil change. $567.09

61248 miles - replace satellite radio module - had a short. Replace thermostat and housing - $1938.48 and included an oil change and was done at a Jaguar dealer

82713 miles - front brakes, repair clogging AC condensation pan tube - this appears to be a design defect. $923.19. This was $373.00 to repair the drain issue and the remainder for the brakes

90714 miles - replace Continental tires with a new set. Got over 50K out of the first set. $1103.48

100980 miles - repair washer fluid leak - hose had come loose - $393.69 but this also included a tuneup with plugs and a fuel filter.

116112 miles - while parked someone damaged the drivers side rear quarter panel. It was very little damage but the quarter panel needed to be replaced. This was when I learned about the expense of an all aluminum car for repairs. My normal body shop estimated what I expected about $2000. But then after about 2 days called and said because it is all aluminum it needed to be repaired by an aluminum certified shop. When all was completed my insurance company paid all but deductble. Total was $9019.61!

123305 miles - saw some drops of fluid on the garage floor. Found that the expansion tank for the radiator had a crack and it was replaced. $895.14 but this included an oil change, tuneup and drive belt replacement.

132181 miles - one tire pressure monitor sensor broke and was replaced. $140.70

133650 miles - not really a repair but had all 4 allow wheels refurbished - taken down to bare metal, all curb nicks removed, all four put back into round and all repainted at $200/wheel and they look like new. - $800.00

134343 miles - front brake rotors and pads replaced, both front wheel bearings replaced, replace transmission fluid pan - $2572.16

Forgot to add that I replaced the original battery in March 2015 with Duralast T8-DLG from Autozone with a 5 year warranty and it got replaced today 4/21/2016 under warranty. That's the subject of another post.

My LR3, which has the 4.4, basically the same engine, is getting the expansion tank replaced probably next week due to some small cracks starting to form. I'm just over 100k now. Wouldn't be surprised if it was the same part.

Thanks for sharing, though. Nothing too surprising I would say, other than the $10k in body work for "minor" damage... good thing insurance picked that one up!

Its nice to hear the X150/4.2 is capable of almost 150k without any major problems when properly taken care of. Hoping to get 250k out of my LR3. I doubt my XKR-S will ever see 150k. Only put about 4-5k a year on it.

Well documented, it's worth it, what was the reason behind the paddle issue problem, as you have listed:

21134 miles -discovered paddle shifters were reversed (don’t use them so took a while to discover this). Corrected under warranty.

Apparently the paddle shifters were just hooked up backwards - the left one did what the right one should do and vice versa. From the invoice it appears all they did was remove the airbag and adjust the connectors. You've got to wonder how that could happen in manufacturing and then get by quality control. Maybe the configuration is reversed for England.

I've used the Conti DWS tires on two other vehicles and plan to put them on the XK. Glad to hear they last 50k!

On 9/26/16 with 144,286 miles the alternator failed. Got a warning message that the battery was not charging. When the engine was shut off something in the engine compartment kept running loudly for about 5 seconds. And that happened consistently for the 5 times the vehicle was turned on and off before I got it to the shop. The shop reported that the bearings were still good but it was only putting out 1/2 amp. Replacement cost was $589.45 (361.45 for the alternator and 228.00 for labor)

I wonder what the total cost was after 8 years! I also noticed that you escaped the horrid a/c leak in passenger compartment and dashboard leather pullback. Good work.

Here's MY maintenance log:
61,000 miles, replace R/F TPMS module.... Cost; Free from Discount Tire.
Oh, and a battery at 56,000 and six years, but I consider that scheduled maintenance.

Having owned the car for a little over 2 years all of my documentation is in a PDF file sent by my dealer after every normal or abnormal service call. It may change in the future as the CPO runs out but the present documentation is pretty descriptive of the work done.

He won't escape it forever, they seem to all plug eventually. Mine was fine until a couple months ago. After 9 years you would think your safe. NOT. The A/C drain however is only a one hour fix so, not so bad.

There's a slight pull back of the leather on the dash towards the driver's side close to the window. It's barely noticeable. And the A/C leak was repaired at 82713 miles by inserting a new tube. However, I note that there is no drip under the car now and every once in a while I hear sloshing. I suspect it is partially clogged but not leaking into the passenger compartment
