Default No power!

Well I was on my way home earlier and I got cruise control unavailable, abs unavailable, cats failure and then it wouldn't accelerate rolled to a standstill (from 120mph too). Switched it off and back on again and it's working fine! Any idea what just happened?!

Sounds like a loose connection. Check the ground cables in the engine bay and at the battery.

Sounds like you need you need to give us some specifics like year, model, miles, condition, symptoms, history, etc we're not good at reading minds. Maybe we'll be able to help some once we've got some info

Haha yeah was a bit fast. Brand new stretch of smooth road and I didn't realise how fast I was going to be honest! Is a 2007 XK, 52,000 miles, good condition and not been having any problems with it

Just keep to 119 and it probably won't happen again

Probably just a transient gremlin

I got all that info and it turned out one of the cats had gone, it sounds like it went into limp home mode. Mine made it home. Left of for a while then it drove as normal. The engine light then would come on after a short journey.
Seems it went into the limp mode as the cat blocked like choking and then got released after some time stopped. Anyway i had to get a new one. Might not be your problem but that was mine.

Cheers but don't think it's that. It didn't go into limp home mode. When I say it lost power I meant pressing the accelerate done nothing and I just rolled to a stop. Done 200 mile since and everything is working perfect though, so hopefully just a one off!

Just curious Tatty, did you look at the tach? Was the engine still idling while you were rolling to a stop?

As per WhiteXKR, there is a grounding post very near the battery that sometimes may have a continuity issue and get very hot due to resistance. That would possibly cause what you describe. His troubleshooting was to check the temp (without using fingers, it gets that hot) of the post. He disconnected his, cleaned everything very well and reinstalled tight. No issues after that.

He actually had to replace the cable:

120mph? I hope that was in Germany!

Might even be prison in UK.

I recall a (non-XK) post where the driver's knee had knocked the key without him realising so the car lost power. (Wasn't at 120mph.)
