It is Pentosin chf 202 and compatible fluids.
I just bought some bottles of this stuff to change the Power steering fluid some time soon for the first time in 10y on my xk 2011.

The 4.2 X150 (07-09) manual calls for Dex3 in the PS system. I was surprised to see that the 5.0 ('10+) manual also calls for Dex3, since I would have expected it to be Pentosin CHF or similar.

But Dex 3 is what it says in both manuals. Dex 3 is harder to find than it used to be.

My manual for xk 2011 with 5.0l engine says very clearly that it wants Pentosin chf 202:

but it is true that in the workshop manual it says Dex3. Now what???

I put Dex III in mine. Did the incremental reservoir remove/replace 4-5 times (lazy man's flush). No problems in over a year.

I will carefully check the color of the fluid currently in my PS system. If it is greenish, will use chf 202. If it is more on the red color side, then I guess it is more likely ATF and will flush it with Dextron 3.

What a mess!

Take the opportunity for a flush and while at it replace the reservoir (or clean the screen at the bottom)
I was surprised at the gunk in the system… actually, I had an in line filter installed so I don’t need to go through that again.
Inexpensive when one considers the age of the car and how she still looks and behaves in a pristine manner.

thanks! Did exactly what you said. Indeed some black stuff in the bottom of the reservoir that I could get out with a cloth.

Not sure why the grime builds up. On my older Landrover running its power steering system on green LR spec fluid, there was less dirt in there, even though car is older and has more miles.

dear Panthera999 - thanks for the post!! Saved me from potential problems just on the day before I was going to do the ps flush!!

As previously I had red fluid in the ps reservoir, I now flushed it with Dex 3. Now have to get rid of the 3 bottles of Pentosin!

Weird, my 11 XJ was showing a bit low on fluid and the manual said Mobil ATF320. Since that is hard to find anywhere I just bought some Dexron III fluid (Vavoline I think) at Menards and called it a day
