Default Soft Close Doors

I searched the forum to see if there were any threads on this with no avail. I find the doors on the X150 close and open a bit harsh. Anyone know of a way to make the doors close and open a bit softer? My mothers Camry doors with no power assist open and close very quiet and smooth.

Power-operated soft-close doors became standard equipment on the current X351 XJ beginning with the 2014 model year, but they were never offered on the X150.

If your doors are hard to open and close from the outside, make sure that your windows are properly adjusted and that the glass automatically drops down (indexes) about 1/4 inch when you pull the handle to open it. If it doesn't, then the glass is stuck in the weatherstrip groove, which obstructs the door from opening. Similarly, the glass should be below the weatherstrip as it closes, and then go up automatically into the groove after the door is closed. Otherwise, the glass hits the weatherstrip and you have to close the door hard to force the glass into the groove.

I think what the OP is saying is that when you open and particularly when you close the doors on these cars, they sound terrible. It is like the door panels are full of rocks and loose panels. All of the XK's I have heard sound the same and do not have a solid feeling of quality construction. Instead, when closing, they sound more like a 1970's Datsun Cherry.
Maybe some sound deadening material inside the door would help.

I have always thought closing the doors did not sound like those of a premium car. It is disappointing.

I’ve always attributed that rattle sound to the fact that the window is slightly open, so the glass tends to wobble when slammed.
My guess is any car with a slightly open window, and not having a full track to support the B-pillar side of the window, is going to rattle.

Yes, when the door is closed or opened it reminds me of closing or opening a truck door. However, if it is done slowly it seems more refined. It's not a big deal. Just something I would change if I could.

Definitely something I recall on my A4. Passengers even commented on it.

yeah my A4 closes fine, but that's a full frame door. my A6 closed ok, and my A7 closes smooth as silk. that has same type of window that creeps down when open and then up after closing. its funny cuz now that i think of it, the doors on our Range Rover close kinda loud like the Jag doors.

If the doors are closed and opened gently they simply click very softly.

Default Improving the door noise

Hello everyone, an old thread but still valid. I added sound deadening inside the door cards and this improves it considerably. Also a new latch makes a big difference because you don't get any bounce back so it makes a satisfying thud. I am trying to work out if the XF soft close doors can be retrofitted since it's the same latch, anyone have experience of an XF with soft close?

Regards Andrew

the main issue lies with it being a frameless door we are never going to have that quality solid feel to them

Hard to have a full-frame door with a convertible, they would suck.
