Default Sticky thread request for maintenance procedures

Our X150s require more maintenance now that they are aging. I've searched the X150 section looking for info on transmission fluid change. I could not find any procedures for doing a complete transmission fluid change, but lots of chatter about fluid, fluid drainage, pan/filter replacement with interest to change the fluid. After draining and dropping the filter/pan I was only able to recover 4.6 liters of the approximately 11 total liters in the system because the fluid is spread throughout the system in the torque converter, transmission casing, cooler, and fluid lines. I posted a thread being disappointed in only being able to change less than 50% of the fluid after doing all the work. jactra referred me to a post in the X350/X358 section posted by Don which brilliantly describes a procedure to change out all of the fluid using the transmission's own internal pump. This is a request to make this thread a sticky reference in a maintenance thread in this X150 section so others can have easy access to it.

I suggested a HOW TO sticky some time ago but it met with little enthusiam and I therefore posted one for Workshop Manuals & Electrical Guides only. I'll go ahead and setup a new HOW TO sticky and include the transmission thread you've identified here and Maintenance Schedule Check Sheets I have available to get it started.

Thanks Graham. Even links to other forum sections would be helpful to alert X150 owners other solutions can be found elsewhere in the forum.

Here's the link to the new XK/XKR 'HOW TO' / DIY Repair & Maintenance "sticky":
https://www.jaguarforums.com/forum/x...enance-227403/

When I get some time I'll trawl through the past threads to look for suitable candidates. All suggestions welcome.

I think you should make post #2 in the new sticky to document known issues - water pump, timing chain. There have been people asking (and surprised by answers) on this repeatedly. At some point, hopefully, there will be a DIY guides for these issues.

I'm not sure how to implement it but there are multiple "How To's" for the other platforms that equally apply to the XK/XKR (and vice versa) that would be useful. For example, the XF and XJ forums have multiple posts on supercharger removal and water pump replacement.

I want to accumulate all the links etc in post #1 of the sticky so members don't have to scroll through a growing list of threads to find something. KNOWN ISSUES is a good section to add. If you have specific thread/posts in mind, let me know and I'll link to them.

No reason for avoiding linking to relevant information in other model forums where it covers common components. For example:

ENGINE
Cooling System
Water Pump replacement
(
insert link or links to relevant threads)

It doesn't matter which model forum the linked thread/post is in. The link will work from the XK/XKR "sticky".

Are you volunteering to find the relevant thread links?

Personally I think it should be it's own sticky and all sticky's should be view only for members. Moderators can add to them over time if that works for them.

Example is this great write up from Cambo in 2014 over on the X350 forum page. His write up is then followed by 3 pages of more additions with "discussion" spattered in between. Makes a 1 page read turn into a PIA. I used it as a starting point to buying my SV8.

https://www.jaguarforums.com/forum/x...d-know-112913/

I'm all for the request. SinF, if you are volunteering, consider starting with Cambo's post and editing out what's not relevant, than adding what is. Also, in terms of links to those types of topics, as they aren't DIY's, put search words in each category. Or knock yourself out and find good links.

My two cents, which is usually valued @ around 1.3 cents.

The way to deal with that type of scenario is:

1. identify the thread (members)
2. copy the original post and lock the copy (moderators)
3. link in the HOW TO's to the copy (moderators)

This is what I did with my "Fuel Filler Bowl - replacement" post:
https://www.jaguarforums.com/forum/x...cement-227451/

The HOW TO has a link to the single post copy.

Graham, I think this one is an outstanding read. I recognize most of us won't attempt it but this Transmission rebuild thread is great:

I'm in awe of anyone tackling a transmission rebuild. It's the one component I won't touch beyond a fluid and filter change.

Added to stickies with your additional relevant PM'd files.

me as well. I don't think John outsources anything:-) In the early 80's I worked for the RTD in Denver and we had a transmission repair area sectioned off. Kind of a dust free environment, glass walls for tours. Allison transmissions and some ZF's as a matter of fact pulled from Flex busses laid out in pieces on massively long tables. Master Mechanics only.

Last one's I rebuilt was an old BW 66 from my VDP and TH350 for a friend. Requires too much space and cleanliness. It's a fun read though isn't it?
