Default 19 " tire and wheel sizes

My car has factory equipped 19" wheels but the tire sizes are different front & rear 245 40 R19 front vs. 255 40 R19 rear. Does anybody know if the front and rear wheels are different widths ? or is it a different tire size on the same wheels ?

I ask because i need to replace the rear tires and the previous owner was a bit of an idiot and I would not be surprised if he paid no attention when getting tires replaced.

All the factory sizes are listed on the sticker under the arm rest, including wheel width I believe. And yes, I believe the wheel widths are different front and back, from memory 8" and 9".

Thanks ...I got the tire sizes off the console sticker. My concern was that the previous owner ( a twit ) may not have taken care when replacing tires and may have switched wheels front to back If the wheels are in fact different widths I shall just be careful to measure the width before replacing the tires

I would first take a hard look at the wheel face. The wheel size is sometimes embossed and part of the casting. Also, the wider wheel may have some visual clue, like a deeper recess for the hub. What style wheel is this?

Barry,

Your Wheels are 19" Apollo Wheels. Front size 19"X 8".....Rear 19 X 9"
Your Tires should be: Front - 245/40-19 Rear - 255/40-19 Hey! that's the same size the "idiot" had on it! Well! How about that?

Anything else? Just let me know! Oh! Brand of Tires should be Continental DWS, if you live where it's cold.....If not, get DW's

I know what the correct tire sizes are. But my car currently has the same size front and rear. The previous owner was a twit. He did not even realize the car HAD a CD player and used to store it in his garage in winter for 4-5 months with the top down permanently creasing the fabric. I wanted to be certain of the wheel widths because the front tires are ok and may not get replaced right now, but I don't want to end up one or two incorrect width wheels front or rear.......assuming that the teenage tire buster would not check wheel width

Mr. Tucker,

I believe the original question was: " Does anybody know if the front and rear wheels are different widths ? or is it a different tire size on the same wheels ?" Did I not answer your question?

Is it cold up there or something?

you did indeed sir answer the question and yesterday it was cold but right now it's a balmy 2C

I now know to be sure to confirm that the previous owner did not mix up the front and rear wheels when he changed the tires because right now there are 245s front and rear.

Exclamation It's cold outside!!!

Barry,

Some people don't understand what to do when Wheels are of different widths....Even the Guys at the Tire Store! Every time I go to Discount Tire to have the Air Pressure checked and I hand them my Little "T" screw-driver and the screw-in Valve for my BBS "Montreal" Wheels......Most of them just stand there with a big question mark on their face.....It's a learning experience each and every time......and when I replace the Tires, they can't believe the XKR has (2) different sizes of Tires......Same as your Apollo's...

Probably what happened to the "Young Man" that owned your Jag was the Guy who sold him the Tires didn't know the difference and therefore sold him the same size all-a-round.......Not everybody knows what the Jaguar Guy knows!

Oh! It's 45 here in Houston @ 9PM and is going down to a cold 33 by 6AM....Now, Let me tell you, Barry....In Texas, that's "COLD"!

Default Under the circumstances!

Barry,

You know the young man or the person that may have own the XK may have changed wheels along the way and bought 4 Apollo's of the same size....As in 4 Front Wheels.....9X8'''''s, as they are cheaper than the 9X9..........

It's possible I guess but not likely. I will check the width of the wheels when I get new tires. Thanks for all the help
