Default 97 xk8 passenger seat issue

So my new to me 97 xk8 has a slight passenger seat issue;
forward and back works,
seat back forward and back works
lumbar in and out works,
seat up and down on front switch does not work at all.

hmmm…i have done the following;
checked all fuse’s related to system…all good
removed passenger seat and frame, checked all electrical connections and they’re good,
removed passenger seat module and checked everything i could, all seems good
i removed seat and brought into garage and removed switch pack, cleaned and checked, all seemed good.
put it all back together and same issue.
today I removed the drivers seat and put drivers module into passenger side and same thing. Everything but seat up and down worked.

that leads me to believe the problem lies In the switch pack. Any thoughts?

next I’m gonna try passenger module in drivers side just to see if it all works or not, I’ll report later.

also, with passenger seat removed I found one yellow connector tucked into side of seat between frame and foam with two pin connector not connected to anything, thinking this may be for heated seats which my vehicle does not have. This particular connector had a solid red wire and a org/wht? Wire.

where should I look next ?

When you had the seat out you should have put 12v direct to the motor to prove it works. If OK then its the switch/ wiring to switch.
Look at the diagram in jagrepair.com

I assume your controls are moving mechanically, just not actuating the motor? Or is there a mechanical failure of some kind? Anyway, I would remove the switch pack, and test for continuity on the up/down switches as a starting point.

If there's no continuity, trace until you find the break in the circuit. If the switch checks out OK and has continuity, as @Pistnbroke said put B+ to the motor.

If the motor actuates and the switch is good, then you would open up the control module and start tracing to the relay which operates up/down.

THE PASSENGER SEAT DOES NOT HAVE RISE/FALL.

Read the owner's manual for all the features for the vehicle.

Am I wrong, that some '97 XK8's came equipped with raise/lower? Fig 12.3 / page 55 of the 1997 XK8 electrical guide PDF seems to indicate "Passenger 3-way" including Blue/Orange & Blue/Slate for the motor to actuate...? I guess I assumed he had this option.

Motorcarman… you’re right. I stupidly overlooked the simplest thing… compared both teams and passenger side does not have a raise lower feature like the drivers side.
welp, that’s a day chasing a problem that doesn’t exist I’ll never get back lol
it was nice to be able to clean under the seats though. And I figured it was a good place to start looking for my airbag light issue.

And to piston + Jim… your ideas were basically everything I tried before posting. What was weird was the pass. Seat switch pack has the same buttons as drivers side and the seat up/down does click, and the circuit board in the module was the same as drivers, although only two connectors went to it (third one on drivers side im assuming was for memory seat positions). But upon x further inspection of the two seat tracks the pass. Side had nothing to make it go up and down. This leads me to believe that there was an option for it but If it was not ordered originally then you received a different track, although it was probably cheaper to make one switch pack readily able to accommodate this feature and that appears to be what I have. Also, I found the same two pin yellow connector not hooked up to anything in the drivers seat. I don’t have heated seats, nor do I have the adjustable height head rests. Not sure which one that connector goes to but if I could add heated seats I will….(future project as it is cold as sh— where I live in western ma most of the year)

any way thanks to all for input I dropped the ball on this one but that’s what happens when you start investigating a problem when your 10 beers deep. At least I was able to clean all the connectors in the seat and vacuum under the seats really good before reinstalling them. Also found about $ 2.14 in change including a wheat penny from 1948 lol(which I collect)
now it’s on to the airbag light. I’ve read about every thread pertaining to this and I was convinced a bad connector under one of the seats was the problem, but sadly after cleaning all of them it is still there. I’ve removed about 80% of under passenger side dash to get to the airbag module but man that thing is in there with like 300 components in the way. I’ll get it out and open it up to see if there’s any problems in the pcb. I’ve tried my scanner and a loaner from my brother in law with no luck, neither can tell me what the code is so I have to go old school and just rip and tear, and find it myself I guess/hope. I’ve checked all fuses related to airbag, checked both front sensors and all under seat connectors on drivers and pass side. Both plugs to module in pass side fascia were connected and tight. Wiring harnesses will be next check and then the airbags themselves.

Man, I only got $0.76 when I did my passenger seat module!

Recommend a new thread for the SRS issues....
