1997 XK8 Watched the videos...found on RHS TWO plugs with hex drive ...Which is it or is it either.
Thanks in advance
Forgive me - but the 97 has the 5hp trans correct? If so, and it's like mine, there is a hex that is a 8mm allen on the RH side. Towards the rear of the trans on the RH side, just over the rear comer of the pan. I've dug around in there quite a bit and if it is the same 5hp with the same design,,, it shouldnt be too difficult to identify. The 8mm hex

So on your photo there are two level plugs ......these are above the filler plug ..sounds strange ...did I miss something ?
I found that photo quickly online... Disregard the two above. You won't even need to look at em... It's the larger bottom 8mm hex plug that is your,,,, *friend*. Lol
The level plug is about 2 inches above the filler plug so how can that work ..??/
The plug you are looking for is the LOWER FILL plug with the arrow. I went on Google and I found a quick photo of the trans to help you see the plug you need. Honestly, I don't know WHAT the folks who originally posted it were indicating or describing with the two UPPER plugs... Forget them.
It's the LOWER plug, the FILL plug you need to be dealing with. Fill there with the engine running. Measure the temp while filling... At 40degrees Celsius, cap it when the fluid is just dribbling out the FILL hole (the lower) and BAM, you're done...
If you're changing the pan/filter, I believe the original bolts are torx T27 (they certainly are on the 5HP). Some kits come with replacement T40 bolts. Not a bad idea given the trouble some have had with the old ones rounding.
