I went to go pick up a tonneau cover locally... and ended up getting the whole-*** XK8 that goes with it. P0171/P0174, misfire, transmission sounds like a KitchenAid mixer and it's slipping in 1st. Probably still worth the $500. May attempt a filter/fill on transmission, and if it's dead I'll break it. I need the dash bits, switches, radio and window regulators. Shame though, beautiful body and strong engine.158K on the clock.
nice find - what year?? For the transmission - it can be repaired or replaced - if the ZF transmission, find a local transmission shop that specializes in ZF transmissions or see if Eriksson Industries out of Old Saybrook Ct(860) 388-4418 is still around as they used to have replacements available. Their website is acting up so give them a call if you can't find locally. There are also a few folks parting our XK8's in marketplace or selling as parts car (2000 XK8 with working engine/transmission, 2002 XK8 being parted out)

Thanks for the heads up! This thing was very heavily bodged to stay on the road and it'll need the front end rebuilt, radiator, lots of electrical, brake reservoir, MAF sensor.... all doable honestly. Transmission is first. I'm out here in Denver sort of on an island where nobody wants to work on these....
We finally had a chance to crawl all over the car today and came up with a list that's long enough for us to consider scrapping for the parts we need:
1) Body is straight but paint is overbuffed and filled with scratches. Dozens of hail dents.
2) Radiator is damaged and leaking.
3) Engine has 158K and making the ugly tensioner nose when starting.
4) Transmission at the least needs service, likely replacement
5) Front tires are nearly on the wheel wells. Bushings are shot.
6) LOTS of electrical and body tape, wire ties, workarounds, general ugliness
7) Smoked in.
8) Missing J-gate fascia.
9) both front windows inoperative (could be electrical)
10) mirrors inoperative.
11) one headlight not getting power.
12) no brake lights.
13) Brake and power steering reservoirs are not original or the right part, and just zip-tied in. Brake light on (low fluid)
14) no wiper fluid reservoir.
15) Front seats collapsed and ripped.
These are just what we found in the first hour of a crawlover. Parts I need for my XKR: Grill insert, spare fuse boxes, spare relay lines, dash wood (somehow immaculate), gauge assembly, tonneau cover, spare convertible top, spare headlights to LEDify, Extra wheels/tires (rather excellent off-brands made by Continental), quarter-windows and regulators, rear light assemblies as spares (to LEDify), radio (mine has a wonky volume control)... the rest? Maybe I'll donate to NPR if I bother putting the money into titling it. Given the above, if anyone needs anything else I'd probably be happy with giving away the rest of the carcass. If I had a place to put it, I'd keep the engine around.
