Default Failsafe Engine Mode question

When I start up my 2000 XKR, about a third of the time the “Failsafe Engine Mode” message will appear on my dash for literally less than a second immediately after ignition, but then disappears. It’s never lasted more than 1 second. Is this normal or should I get it checked out? There’s no engine lights on.

I get a TRACTION CONTROL FAIL or other messages when one of my X100 or X308 sedans sit and the battery gets a little low.

Try looking for PENDING CODES if you have a DTC reader with that capability?

OBDII code readers can be found at auto part stores, Amazon, eBay etc.

Cost is $20 on up.

Many have a feature that can read PENDING CODES.

Any idea if I would need a scanner that reads jaguar-specific codes for this type of problem, or would a generic scanner probably work?

People seem to reccomend the Innova brand. Seems that it will show pending codes, according to one reply about the product.

ALL OBDII code readers can communicate with the ECM.

IF you want to communicate with all the other Control Modules, then a Jaguar specific reader would be needed.

Snack, just remember: while the reader will display the correct alpha numeric fault code, IME its rare that the English description shown on the reader is correct.

Iow, copy the code down, look it up. We have references on here. Or just Google 2003 jaguar xk8 code (number) . . .

Might save you time and headaches.

John
