What are the options for fuel pumps for a 1999 XK8 convertible, any recommendations?

Well there you go, teach you to neglect me all winter.
Seriously, same thing happens every spring to a lot of us.
I used the RockAuto one $40, if I remember rightly and as info it did not come with the filter that is in the tank, as advertised. Another $20 or close. So, if you choose anything in between, be aware if it has that filter, if not will be another delay in putting it back together. Also the ones listed in the parts stores might need some tweaking to get the correct fit.

 

I went with the airtex cheapee from RockAuto (x2 on R model) and I also bought the sock filter for it too (x2). And I bought the in tank leads from Jaguar. ABSOLUTELY DO NOT PASS ON BUYING THE IN TANK WIRE; on one of my pumps that was the actual part bad, one bad pump and one bad wire.

doing this job is no fun. doing it twice is twice as not fun.

That said, I'm on the internet, posting about doing car repair, which is statistically mostly men, and I don't really care what anyone calls me. I grew up working on cars with my dad, who is both cheap and resourceful, and that's rubbed off on me lol. What I care about is that when people change fuel pumps on an X100, they change the in tank leads!

Anyway, no skin off anyone's back and this is a great place to be and exchange info, so lets get back to that . My other tip when doing this is get a variety of fuel line disconnect tools. I ended up using a cheap Lisle plastic one, being pushed with a piece of copper pipe that I dremeled out so I could put it around the fuel line and push the line disconnect tool against the connection at the tank; some people cut a hole in the body of the car to access the top of the fuel tank to do this job, and I think the Coupe might have access through a speaker hole (not sure, I have convertible), but I don't like cutting up bodies of cars. The fancier metal ones I had wouldn't fit. The $2 white plastic one worked great and was one of like 3 or 4 total tools I had for this.

 

If you haven't yet purchased a pump you should seriously consider one with a limited lifetime warranty. Replacing the fuel pump is no fun. And replacing it twice is even less fun. The fuel pump kits for this car seem very inexpensive but I'm sure the effort to remove/install them more than makes up for the component cost. Just my 2 cents.

 

I went with a Denso pump (9510008). It seemed to be the OEM and plugged right in. Don’t forget to get a fuel pump filter sock and to replace the in-line fuel filter near the left rear wheel too.
